2025 9.5 qt oil capacity vs. 2024 10 qt

Any idea why Ford reduced the oil capacity in the 5.0 by 1/2 quart?

It’s weird. I’m cool with somebody who’s a technician at Ford so he does my oil changes for me, and he said according to the technician software they use even the 2024s take 9 1/2 quarts so that’s what he put in mine, so I just sent this to him and he said I’m not sure what’s up with your owners manual, but the 2024 and 2025 take 9 1/2 quarts.

They switched filters from a FL500s to a FL2127 which is a smaller filter. The 24's are probably listing previous years for oil capacity.

If you change your own oil, you have to buy 10 qts anyway. So fill 9 qts, measure, fill to 9.5, measure again; if you're still low (like my 2024 was) then fill to 10qts and measure again. Then, drive off into the sunset.

My 2024 Owners manual says 9.5 quarts. Odd that yours says 10 quarts. My build date was April 2024.

On the .dpf document, "2024 Mustang (CZJ) Canada/United States of America, enUSA, Edition date: 202212, DOM" page 371, lists 10.0qt (9.5L). Obviously, Ford changed the capacity between the 2024 manual and the newest owners manual.

My 2024 manual says to use the FL500S filter and the Ford parts department looked it up last week for me and said that is correct and sold me the filter. I'm getting ready for my first 1000 mile break in oil change and find these conflicting threads frustrating at best.

When you change your filter for the first time, you'll notice the FL500 is slightly larger than the FoMoCo black filter used during assembly. I would bet you'll end up using 10qts once you do your oil change.

FL2127 is for the eco boost 2.3

Yeah. For me I use this Owners manual, and it states 10. My tech claimed it’s 9.5, I don’t know how accurate that is considering ford is telling people a bunch of different numbers. I’m sure though, even if it was 10, and you put 9.5, it will never cause an issue.

I've done 5 oil changes myself. FL-500s and 10 qts. Ends up on full every time.
