I just changed my oil for the first time (dealer did one before this). I had the front wheels on ramps and drained for at least an hour. I replaced the filter as well. I filled to just under 9 quarts and the dipstick didn't register any oil. I decided to dump the rest of the second jug in (10 quarts total). My dipstick now registers right at the top of the fill range or perhaps a hair over. It is hard to read as oil tends to streak along the stick in places). Is there a chance I have overfilled the engine? Should I be concerned seeing as new manual recommends only 9.5?

Do car manuals list "fill"capacity (including filter) to be added for oil change or instead total capacity as if filling brand new totally empty from factory?
If you drained oil for 1 hour and you put 10 quarts, you are good to go. No worries.

Thanks for the quick reply. Could having the front of the car higher than the rear have an affect on how well the oil drains out? I would think it should help matters but not necessarily.

I asked the same question once, because I saw several people using ramps where the front wheels are on the ramps and the back on the ground, and they all said that it doesn't matter due to how the oilpan is shaped. It will drain the same as if the wheels are all leveled. If you really drained it for 1 hour than no worries at all. That's longer than most people drain their car.

My 2024 GT (built in May of 24) manual says 9.5 quarts. On the first oil change I told the tech that it held 9.5 according to the manual. Checked it when I got home and it was showing overfilled on the stick. I took it back and he said the specs called for 10 on their computer even after I told the DA I wanted 9.5

24 GT RTR Spec 3. Just did 1st oil change and took ten (10) quarts with FL500S filter. One thing I noted the oil pan is metal compared to my 2019 Roush Mustang that was the molded plastic.
