3rd gear lockout/grind continues to be alive and well on these cars equipped with the MT-82 + mini ownership reflection after 15k miles.

My car now has just over 15k miles on it. Also has an MGW shifter (did it when stock too). You'd think that after 13 years Ford would have remedied this problem. I was going for a little rip tonight taking advantage of the no lift shift feature which is tons of fun. I was shifting at redline when it happened today. I did the same thing yesterday and the car performed perfectly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it happens.

To those of you who may say "then don't shift at that high of an rpm", and I've seen a few on the forums, what exactly is the point of owning a 7500rpm redline monster of a motor if you can't take advantage of it?

Mini Reflection

I've always been a car enthusiast. I love all types of cars, European and American (never been much for Asian anything with a few exceptions). Wrenching, driving on track, nailing that downshift, etc is all so fun and rewarding. I'm young, but I've never had such an up and down relationship with a car as much as I do this one. When its fun, it's REALLY fun. When it's not, it's frustrating knowing I spent 50k on something that's not working as it should (you can look at my post history). It's such a good looking and capable machine but I feel like the quality betrays it in some aspects. Would I buy again? On some days yes, on others no. First world problems...

The A10 is such a great transmission… if I couldn’t get a Tremec I would choose the A10…

I'm a spoil sport! Yes, rowing your own, non lift shifting, popping clutches, are all fun and games! So is the extra wear and tear on all of the included parts. We should, however, be asking ourselves questions like...

Why are the automatics faster in almost every respect? Why are the 10R80 and 10R140 stronger and longer lasting than the manuals? There are more questions to be ask, but there is one glaring fact we all cannot deny; The day is coming very soon when manuals will be gone across the board. The only thing that will continue forever is carping about!

They are faster because there are more gears and so they can be lower ratio to start with (and higher in 10th for economy too), can change gear faster than a manual. They are more reliable than a manual because you cannot do anything with them that isn't programmed to protect the box.

But the manual is way more fun to drive.

Your answer has nothing to do with the question either

Would double-declutching help? I know this isn't exactly in-line with a speedy zip through the 'box but thinking about mechanical sympathy...

On the contrary, I replied to a specific post and other people liked my answer.
Mine was also liked. My answer was just as valid as yours was. At least I was referring to a manual Transmission and why I preferred to have one vs the automatic which the op never even mentioned in his original post.

Read post #4 to which I was responding.
