3rd gear lockout/grind continues to be alive and well on these cars equipped with the MT-82 + mini ownership reflection after 15k miles.

Read post #4 to which I was responding.
I was responding to and trying to get this back on topic which you and post 4 were off on the A10 instead of the MT-82 which this thread was about.
The op never once mentioned he was interested in the A10 or any auto tranny

I personally like the top loader 4 speed..... how do you all think it compares to the AOD?

it's funny on Reddit everyone denies the MT-82 has problems
Is Hurst still in Business?
Hurst use to be the number one in shift Linkage?
I’ve never driven a new 2024 Mustang 6-Speed so I’m not familiar with the way it shifts or the problems some are having?
I may be out of touch with the newer Transmissions?
I just know GM, Pontiac etc used the Hurst.
Ford use the Borg Warner close racial T10 4-speed.
I don’t believe the Trans. Problems should be that hard to solve.
The Stick Trans. & Clutches have been around for more than 100 years.

Ive had four different Coyote cars. My 2019 was a A10 and it was the most boring car to drive. The A10's are quicker but you cant replace the awesome feeling of shift through those gears on curved roads.

Oh boy, here I go again... 10R80

If you're one of these guys who is caught up into the stop light derby mentality, then I guess the manual is the way to go. This said, most of us use our Mustangs as daily drivers (I'm not full time as I own a Ranger too), and rowing a manual box is rush hour traffic isn't fun.

If you want near instant get up and go, drive in Sports mode. If you have just have to shift then use drag mode and paddles (assuming you have them) for shift-it-yourself! So when your manual kicks your butt when you really needed second gear, that car in front of you might be me!

Prediction: I suspect the Mustang will end up being the last sports car with a manual tranny. I suspect Ford will switch over to auto only within five years and maybe sooner.

... We should, however, be asking ourselves questions like...

Why are the automatics faster in almost every respect? Why are the 10R80 and 10R140 stronger and longer lasting than the manuals?...
the reason they are faster is because they use solenoids to redirect fluid flow. and the reason they are stronger is because the 10R80 is designed to stand up to the likes of the Raptor R (640 lb-ft) while towing 8700 lbs, and the 10R140 to the likes of the high output 6.7L diesel (1200 lb-ft) while towing 40,000 lbs

Would double-declutching help? I know this isn't exactly in-line with a speedy zip through the 'box but thinking about mechanical sympathy...
Maybe and then again if it’s not mechanical it’s electrical, if it’s electrical it should in theory be selectable in software/circuit.

I had a 2013 Boss 302 and I hated the MT82 always got locked out in 3rd when power shifting, Ford has always stated that the transmission is fine, NOT. If only they had put in the Tremec we would have never had these issues and hear we are 11 years and in the same boat. I don't think anyone would have minded spending a few extra bucks for the Tremec.

I daily drive my Mustang. I've driven a manual for over 15+ years. Every vehicle from when I got my driver's license to the present day has been a manual (minus the 2017 Ford F-150... no manual option of course). Of course, they are no longer the fastest, but anyone in 2024 should already know you don't buy a manual to be the quickest. I have had my car for almost a year (over 9,000 miles). I've been stuck in stop-and-go traffic and it does suck... However, I have also found the remedy. Either leave earlier/later or deal with it. It is as simple as that. It may not be the best manual transmission out there, however, in this day and age, there are very few rear-wheel drive, naturally aspirated V8s, and a coupe, that are manuals. Either deal with it or get an automatic and move on.

I disagree with you about the stop and go traffic. With rev matching and other features the 24s have, its probably the easiest manual mustang to drive. its so hard to actually stall the car out now. You really have to try and stall the car out.

But hey you can rev your car from your key fob with the A10.

My car now has just over 15k miles on it. Also has an MGW shifter (did it when stock too). You'd think that after 13 years Ford would have remedied this problem. I was going for a little rip tonight taking advantage of the no lift shift feature which is tons of fun. I was shifting at redline when it happened today. I did the same thing yesterday and the car performed perfectly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it happens.

To those of you who may say "then don't shift at that high of an rpm", and I've seen a few on the forums, what exactly is the point of owning a 7500rpm redline monster of a motor if you can't take advantage of it?

Mini Reflection

I've always been a car enthusiast. I love all types of cars, European and American (never been much for Asian anything with a few exceptions). Wrenching, driving on track, nailing that downshift, etc is all so fun and rewarding. I'm young, but I've never had such an up and down relationship with a car as much as I do this one. When its fun, it's REALLY fun. When it's not, it's frustrating knowing I spent 50k on something that's not working as it should (you can look at my post history). It's such a good looking and capable machine but I feel like the quality betrays it in some aspects. Would I buy again? On some days yes, on others no. First world problems...
I am a 63 year old that has always had standard transmission cars, 2008 f250 manual trans currently and the 2024 mustang GT. I am very happy with the mt-82 shifting, of course I am not dumping clutches etc. I would also like to point out that unfortunately in this day and age 50 thousand dollars for the Mustang GT gets you a lot of car for the money, but its not a 130 thousand dollar Porsche 911. Just some thoughts not criticism, enjoy that car.
