why not call it a Gazelle or something? A Mustang is a RWD, 2-door coupe muscle car... with a V8. Once you start changing that, it's no longer a Mustang, it's something else.

Coming soon at a Mustang dealer near you - scratch that - pick a config on the website shortly?

In all honesty the picture in the original post here kinda reminds me of a James Bond Aston Martin car. Not too bad imo

They have a bunch of legacy names they could use. Even one that was already a 4 door alternative to a Stang historically.

Fords just doing mental gymnastics

What do you guys think from a 4 door Mustang? Would you consider buying one?
Yes, provided two things happen.
The V-8 RWD is retained. Rear Wheel biased AWD would be acceptable
It remains a driver focused car (NOT SUV)

So keep it sporty! I am not expecting to go down the track in it, but do want to feel the thrill of the Mustang when I am on the road.

Couple of other small ideas
Add a little bit to the roofline to allow teens and adults to sit in the back without having to contort themselves (otherwise, why make a 4 door?)
Allow special editions to be made in the 4 door version. So Dark Horse/GT350/GT500 four-door versions.

Don’t unite two legends (that would be consolidation - now you only got one not two) and a mustang falcon would be a Pegasus. Keep them separate. Brand is ford model is….
I agree 100%

I don’t get the obsession with needing to call it a Mustang. I saw someone on FB arguing that Mustang is a brand like Porsche, when it’s in fact more like a 911. They throw some that ethos on other cars but rename them to maintain the model recognition.

Falcon itself like you were saying has its own legendary heritage. I think it could do well as long as they put the same effort into it as the Mustang.

Hello folks,

the rumours spreading again that Ford has another suprise for us, namely the Mustang as 4 door. Here are more hints from CEO Jim Farley:

  • Ford CEO Jim Farley is open to adding new body styles to the Mustang lineup, including a four-door, as long as it captures the spirit of the original.
  • Before introducing new body styles, Ford plans to expand the Mustang lineup with performance-focused derivatives of the existing coupe.
  • Besides the V8 that will remain in production, Ford is considering a hybrid Mustang but says no to EVs. (with the exception of the MACH-E)
The last bullet point is interesting, because it tells us already that the "big suprise" underneath that green blanket a couple of weeks ago, definitely WON'T be an electric Mustang (Thank God), if the hints are true.

In an interview with Autocar, Jim Farley expressed his openness to the concept of a four-door Mustang, provided it upholds the performance and attitude of the original. Specifically, the Ford CEO stated:

“We will never build a Mustang that isn’t a Mustang. For instance, there will never be room for a small, two-row Ford SUV with a Mustang badge stuck on it. But could we explore other Mustang body forms – such as a four-door or similar? I believe we could, as long as these models possess all the performance and attitude of the original.”

The idea of a Ford V8 powered car intriguing as it worked well for Dodge for the last 18 or so years…With the Charger gone there really is no more a real american V8 4 door except for the ugly looking cheap interior 4 door Camaro called Cadillac CT5 for $100K plus that no one buys…But it wont be easy for Ford to pull this off between the two extremes which would be the simple / semi affordable and emotional V8 Charger and the more expensive , edgy and super car fast BMW M3 that can be had with AWD and manual trans…Even available as a convertible and cool wagon 👍 That code will be hard to crack for Ford going BMW or Dodge Charger or somewhere in between…Especially where money is tight and quality not up to par as customers who pay between $60-100K have expectations !

Not going to happen on D2C.

I think what we got is it unless Ford switches to a truly new platform. Too many limitations.

The only acceptable body style addition would be a 2 seater version called the Mustang Cobra - as it heartens to the two seater Shelby Cobra.

make it faster, handle better, look cooler = yes.

make it bigger, heavier, slower, handle worse, or resemble grandmas grocery getter = no.

if you want to do that, call it something else.

You can't have it all, it's a Mustang after all ;)
You have to pick two from each side or be ready to pay $300.000.
