I just spent 20 minutes reading this whole thread. Very interesting. Maybe the intake filters + Carbon Traps + H Pipe? That would add up to the 503 HP. Also, the previous owner, did he use a butt dyno or a real dyno LOL

I just checked air filters are blue. Is that an issue that could cause warranty issues?
Warranty, not really. Just have to be careful they’re not over oiled, which could saturate the delicate sensors in the intake tubes and throw a check engine light. If they removed the carbon traps, that could be a warranty issue. They’re hard to put back in (it’s like a coiled ribbon of plastic) if you had them. If you’re not interested in whatever little horsepower gains there are go back to stock.

If you have a resonator delete with an X or H pipe, that’s hard to go back (would require welding), the only issue there is noise depending upon where you live. AZ it isn’t generally a problem unless you’re caught racing (it’s an added element to a crime). AZ exhaust laws are pretty lax, “excessive and unusual”. California is pretty restrictive. But not a warranty issue. However, see if you have any other exhaust mods, like long tube headers and cat deletes. That could be warranty/check engine light issue.

Yikes, my head is spinning. I'm not a mechanical guy so this is Greek to me. When I bring the car in for a recall in two weeks would it be wise to have Ford do an inspection and put it back to OEM?

I don't know much history of the car, it was out there for only about eight months before coming to Carmax. Ford shows no service records before me and carfax shows near nothing.

If they would do that, that’s what I would do. If the car has active exhaust and the previous owner did a resonator delete, that’s very expensive. The intake tubes are not as expensive. The air filters are not expensive. Makes me wonder what else may have been done.

Take a breath Dr. Many on here are used to discussing the technical side without realizing not everyone is able to do so. But we are here to help so let's take it slow.

Don't not worry about the filters. There are two types wet and dry. The wet type uses an oil that can be cleaned and reused indefinitely. These if not oiled properly can create problems with the engine. The dry kind is what comes a standard equipment and presents no such issues. Your Steeda filters are the latter no pose no problem.

The second issue, the carbon traps, are secondary filters that are used for emissions control. Removing them supposedly improves performance but most on here are not really convinced. These filter are located in the intake tubes. You have to remove the filters to get at them. I believe, at this point, this would be beyond your scope. Do not mention this to the dealer as there is no need too. If by chance you find a technically able friend to assist, they can check this out for you. Again no real big deal.

As far as the exhaust, I simple look see will tell you if anything was done. A mid pipe, either X or H is not a warranty buster. They are used to slightly improve performance but mainly for sound.

Here is a recent article about these over on M6G.

Do not let the dealer do anything. They will note everything in their system. Why give them a reason to possibly deny a future warranty claim. This, of course, is unlikely, but why bother.

Thank you for your kind words Bikeman. Would it be wise to have Carmax check out the carbon traps? I watched a video another member posted concerning the traps.

Scares me to an extent and other times not. don't like not knowing.

PS Are we listing all the cars we ever owned in our profile?

This whole thread is like watching a bad sitcom 🤣 To DrRaphael-nothing wrong with wanting to know what was done to the car-I would be very curious as well if it was mine. But with that being said-take a breath-I would have no problem driving and enjoying this car. Everything is going to be fine. It’s a Mustang-just go let her eat!

Honestly, if it were me I'd look for a top quality independent mechanic who specializes in hi performance cars. I wouldn't trust a Carmax mechanic to know what they are looking for.

I was at first really concerned about the "MOD" on the plaque put after reading post 53 I realized that's probably where it came from. We know the filters were changed, no big deal. The traps really do not mean anything and the exhaust, if anything was really done, should have no future effect on the warranty. So I totally agree, relax and enjoy.

But if Dr. is really concerned, just find a good mechanic and let them give it a once over. Just for peace of mind.
