Anyone know what this noise is ? 2 dealers didn’t …

i have the same exact sound on my car and it was there at the show room before buying the car i think its normal
i asked the dealer about it before buying and then i asked the mechanic when i went for service about it and both told me its normal, they even started another car for me to make sure its there as well

On my old Mustang there was the clutch plate rubbing against the clutch housing. It got worse and worse throughout the years until the metallic noise was horrible. It happened at cold starts, and would fade out within a few minutes. The fix was to remove the clutch cover, add a couple washers to give it clearance and put it back. Not sure if this is the case here. Is it manual? If so, could be the clutch.

It could also be one of the pulleys. You need to get a stethoscope and listen where it's coming from during cold starts.

The dealers must have narrowed it down to the drive belts or in that area if they replaced parts in that area... I still say alternator pulley... modern alternators use a "freewheel" pulley which drives the belt under acceleration, but allows the alternator to freewheel under deceleration (or idle down). Sometimes they can emit some noise while doing so... excessive noise may indicate it's faulty.

Update after 31 days , they got it right, timing chain tensioner and guides. Noise gone . 2 dealer shops total 73 days out of service. Glad it’s over!!!!!!

Yes, I had a rental the whole time it was out of service… provided by Ford

We settled with a cash for keep, I can’t disclose the amount as part of the terms of the settlement I can say this , it was brutal going through it, but Ford stuck by me and did right by me. I’m happy now that it’s over got my Horse back , happy af!

Because Ford goes to great lengths to reduce NVH on these cars.

So I found it odd that an operator would go out of their way to listen/look for it.

Anyways 100% normal and to be expected startup sounds from a combustion engine.

- Ford Technical Service Bulletin. Inspected parts determined to be wearing abnormally should be replaced

- Ford Special Service Message. Like the BBQ tick, the sound is considered normal

It was the chain tensioner and guides. Problem resolved .
