Hey guys,

Great forum, thanks especially to the regular contributors!

Is anyone fully aware of the ADRs or other State laws, rules that apply to placing carbon wheels on a Mustang?

I note Carbon Revolution, an Australian company, that supplies wheels to Ford for the Mustangs https://www.carbonrev.com/news/ford-mustang-gt500-starts-production-uses-carbon-revolution-wheels/with new ones for the dark horse also/s650 also (scroll down) https://www.carbonrev.com/wheels/

I believe that any customization that differs to the manufacturer can be up to police to decide, but having an engineer’s certification (handy in the car) can limit incidents.

So back to my question, also has anyone placed carbon wheels on their Mustang, if so can you let me know the details, where, how much etc please.

Cheers

It would have to be a very switched-on police officer to know the difference between a aluminum alloy wheel and one from carbon fiber. Those laws are designed to stop the young and stupid doing silly things to their cars, endangering their own lives as well as those also sharing the road. Carbon Revolution are a OE supplier, so they wouldn't be selling a sub standard product anyway.

As for Carbon wheels, they are way overrated, requiring specialty treatment and are prone to very expensive damage.

Just get a set of monoblock forged wheels for about probably 25% of the carbon price here in Australia that weigh about 20% more than carbon wheels imo . I got a quote on some custom 10.5" monoblocks before Xmas at $6200 . All depends if you drive it a lot or it's a garage queen i suppose .

I might be wrong now but i know previously you could only buy those Carbon Revolution from Ford / Shelby , i doubt you get them locally .

Carbon Revolution CREV are listed on Nasdaq bourse fwiw

Thanks for your reply guys.

I have heard, possibly a car sales video a little while back, that the ADRs don’t cover them here, but that was all they said, so my concern really is more along the lines of if in an accident whether they would be considered a cause and then nullifying any insurance for both your car and anither car regardless if fault.

My reason is predominantly the instant torque/turning of the wheels given the new technology has extremely (at least 20%min.) less moment of inertia at all four wheels.

I do wonder why though…the GTD doesn’t have them?

You wouldn't get much change out of $10,000 AUD for a set of carbon wheels. Just not worth it on a Mustang.

I doubt you'd actually get any change out of $20k ( make that $30k) delivered to your doorstep

See, I'd rather put that sort of money into a different (or another) car. Crazy expensive for a set of plastic wheels.

Mag wheels used to be very pricey, I’d suggest similar to the cost of carbon now (accounting for CPI, inflation, etc)…besides if carbon were more readily available here for all vehicles, then they would be cheaper based on volume also (as mag wheels have become).

but price is off topic…besides the GTD is all “plastic” (except wheels as I previously mentioned and don’t understand why) and 5 times at least the price of a GT, with “more expensive cars” generally all “plastic” also right? So why not wheels…There are also GTD CF panels available for sale…tribute anyone :)

purely interested firstly in legality, within adrs

I’m guessing they may be(?) as a quick check on car sales has corvettes being sold here with CF wheels…

so now just need to find some…maybe buy a set from a corvette and replace the badge ;)

Best,
