See the brushes? You need something like this. The red handled is for tougher grime/dirt and the black handle is a little softer.

Then it comes down to the type of chemcials/products you are using! You want something fairly safe for paint.

I play my "Lack of Knowledge" card and summon @DFB5.0 who gives me a +5 Magic Detailing Product Knowledge for the next 3 turns.

These areas are tedious to deal with. The go-to would be an APC teamed with a firmer boars hair brush, but quite often the stains will remain. This then points to mineral deposits, which is quite common as these areas are harder to dry properly with a towel, so as the water evaporates it leaves behind that white residue. An alkaline APC will NOT remove mineral deposits.

On my brand-new Mustang, which sat on the dock for a few months before being shipped to Australia, it to collected mineral deposits and caused a similar white appearance. The following is how I would deal with it...........................

1. During your normal wash, before rinsing off the soap, grab a boars hair brush and an APC. Spray the badge with APC and agitate with a brush. Rinse and dry the car, then inspect the results. If this cleared them up, nice work! Otherwise, progress to step 2 and 3.............................

2. On my badges, I needed a dedicated plastic and vinyl cleaner teamed with a very small nylon brush to treat the inner cross-hatched section of the badge (I stress not around the edges, we will get to that soon). Spray the badge with the product, agitate, then wipe away with a towel. Repeat as needed. I use Meguiar's M39, but that has been discontinued, so Nextzett has something similar. I use the black medium bristle nylon Braun brush.

3. To treat the area around the badge edges, I would use a water-spot remover. These products easily dissolve mineral deposits without needing to be aggressive with a brush, which on black paint, that's a good thing. Most of the detailing companies make one, the DIY Detail version is a good option, but Carpro Spotless or Gyeon Water-Spot Remover would work as well. To use, spray onto the badge and allow 30 - 60 seconds to dwell, then wipe away with a towel, working some mild pressure along the outline of the badge. You may need to do this a couple of times, then rinse with water afterwards to neutralize the product.

No matter the stage, I would discourage using a Q-Tip as you risk the cotton being perforated and the stick scratching your paint, which will look far worse than the mineral deposits you are trying to remove.

Good luck.
