I thought I'd let everyone know that I bought a set of the Dark Horse Puddle lamps but they don't work properly on our cars.

The lamps project different to the stock pony ones which point straight down. These are more like the ones off the FM and are angled.

With the new welcome lighting, the puddle lamps come on when the mirrors are auto-folded. They don't work any other time from what I can see. Because of this and the lamps, they don't work properly.

Wouldn't recommend buying these and I now know why we got the pony lamps.

This is odd. Whoever designed them should have used the same wiring scheme. I'd be complaining to the company that made or sold them!

As I think about this, some company should come up with custom after-market ones. Say to display a unique license plate, or perhaps a picture of a Whipple. Heck with all of the electronics available today, you could even do a movie! Imagine a movie of your Dark Horse spinning off a month's worth of rubber every time you opened the door?!

They are standard off the shelf Ford ones. They work fine, just dont point in the right direction when the lights are on.

The funny thing is the manual says that the puddle lights work when mirrors aren't folded, but my experience is they only work when auto-folded. Which means that the Dark Horse style ones dont work. I dont know why the have angled and non-angled ones though, its a bit odd.

They are a specific side. They face the right way, it's a power fold issue. US Dark Horses don't have power fold mirrors, hence why we get the pony logo

There's different sets, I do have power mirrors and the puddle lights will ONLY lights up with the mirrors folded and the welcome (approach) lights, they doesn't work when you open the car or the door like in the S550. Hence mine are angulated to work only when the mirrors are folded.

Exactly. That's the problem, power fold mirrors have lights that point straight down, the Dark Horse lamps are angled. So when they illuminate they are half pointing at the door. You can see that in the second picture. Unfortunately they don't make a dark horse version that suits the power fold mirrors. The only hope would be to reprogram the car to illuminate the puddle lights with the mirrors unfolded but I haven't seen anyone do that.

I wanted to do that, and I wouldn't have cared of having the pony logo rotated outside (or I could have bought the DH puddle lamps), but didn't found a way to activate this mechanism via ForScan. The point of having the puddle lights is to illuminate the ground when you open the door (seated in the car) or when you unlock it to come aboard; having it to light up only when you approach the car could be usefully but only marginally if you lose the other two.
