I first checked my oil hot at about 1000mi/1600km and it was right on the low dot. Added a quart then and hasn't moved since. Gonna get my first oil change at 3000mi/4800km. I know sooner probably would have been better but I want to make sure any oil consumption is fully stabilized before I go ahead and get some good oil in there. Probably going to run Mobil 1 as it's the only brand I can find relatively easily in a 0W-30 that meets Ford specifications and also doesn't cost 48 million dollars (in case they try get funny with warranty)
Wow seems like you were low from factory. From what’s normal. Why 0w-30

Because I run my Mustang year round in the far north of Canada where temperatures lower than -30°C are frequent and can get as cold as -55°C. This is lower than the temperature the manual states you should start using 0W30. Just makes more sense to run it all the time in my climate.

Have yall been following the 19ft lb spec for the oil drain plug or are you just earmarking it with your ratchet.

When I was in my teens I remember stripping the threads in my oil pan of my 73 Plymouth Fury. Went down to the auto parts store and they sold me a self tapping oil pan bolt made to fix the problem. He told me that if I strip it out again that he has one more size up bolt to correct the problem. I ended up stripping a bolt again about a year later in my 67 Galaxy 500 and after that developed a feel for tightening the oil pan bolts by feel for the last 45 years doing my own (and wifes) oil changes.

Yep. Watch over the next 400 miles.
I haven’t gone 400 but I have gone 353. I started getting on the car a bit more when I passed 500 once up to temps I’ll get up to 5-6k on the highway 95-105 mph just having fun with the car still varying rpm’s otherwise. Previously I hadn’t taken it passed 4-5k. I decided to start driving a bit harder just to see if that might expose any problems with oil consumption otherwise I won’t go any higher than 6k rpm until after 1k miles. I’ll have a cold oil check tomorrow but from what it looks to be after waiting 15 minutes today my level looks to be virtually the same as 7 days ago. Give me your thoughts.

Promising. It’s not consuming massive amounts of oil. Maybe now just watch it over time to see if it’s consuming a more reasonable amount. Mine went through somewhere around a half quart in its first 4k.

I just did a cold check. And it hadn’t moved from 353 miles ago. What’s a reasonable amount?

nope. But i also have a quick drain valve from Votex
I've used Fumoto quick drain valves before and have data on my BMW and RX-8 that there's about 450-800 mL of old oil left in the bottom of the pan (due to the Fumoto design; if you take out said fast drain valve). It was sludge-y in both cars after 40-60K miles. I haven't used one since. They're good for construction / work vehicles but IMO not worth the speed for cars that you want to keep a long time.

Well i do 5k oil changes and I’ve pulled the plug from time to time. There really isn’t much left. But that sludgy thing shouldn’t be happening anyways as the oil should all be going through the filter. That’s a bigger issue not with the quick valve

Have heard other people talk about the build up at the bottom of the pan with those valves

never figured out what's so hard about removing a single bolt...
