It turned on and everything, just didn’t “patch” the hole and didn’t inflate.
This is one of the pitfalls of most modern cars and Mustangs. Small leaks and holes might not be an issue. Anything significant, forget about it.

This season, I purchased a spare from Automotive Authority.

https://www.automotiveauthorityllc....-2015-2017-ford-mustang-gt-with-brembo-brakes

Chat them up about options for the S650. In the S550, the spare will clear the cover, so it appears all stock, with the space saver underneath.

An alternative, drivers taking long-distance trips, might want to fab up a full-sized spare.

While you're at it, consider a set of booster cables.

https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-...uralast-battery-booster-cable-20ft/125337_0_0

I've purchased and used (helping out someone else) these. Plenty long, heavy, well-built, with an in-line gauge to measure voltage.

Edit,

I've got 19s and Brembos. The AA spare works fine. The rim and tire are also within 3% of the tires' diameter I'm using now. Before they shipped anything, they e-mailed me to confirm rim and tire size, to ensure I was going to get something that would work.

When you ordered the Tow, did you ask a special one for Mustangs? or any tow will work?
When my Vette exploded and needed to be towed a handful of times around TX, when I called dispatch I just always told them it will need to be a flatbed. Maybe not possible if you’re really in a pickle but even at 10PM on a Friday in BFE, I’ve still had them show up.
If my Mustang ever needs a tow it’s only going on a flatbed

I had two flat tires in 25+ years of driving. The second one happened a few weeks after I got my GT. Specifically wanted one with a spare tire option. Got caught on a busy Highway. Glad I had my spare. Better to have and not need.

So this happened just a few moments ago. The “tire repair kit” didn’t work. Having it towed to replace the tire.

Damn, sorry this happened. Believe me, I feel that financial pain. I hope you’re back on the road ASAP

If nothing else, thank you for posting and the reminder ...

Reminder received, order placed!

I have had... 2 car blowouts; also had a dump truck suffer a front blow out right next to me and a tractor trailer suffer a rear blow out, again right next to me - both as I was passing. Had to swerve to avoid the dump truck which immediately pulled in my direction.

3 flats, and I think... 13 IIRC plugged or patched tires that I have owned, not counting my early years driving other’s vehicles that had flats. Of my 13 holed tires --5 of them were on one car, one set of tires ! ! ! That was my first car with low profile tires, and it was a magnet for nails.

Happened to me on my first 24 hours of ownership! Drove it home from the dealer, next morning went out and got a TPS warning. Limped the 70 miles back to the dealership (stopped to pump up 3 times along the way). $279 later new tire. Sigh.

that was in May. Last Friday I had to put new all weather Pirelli P Zero AS3’s on because it’s getting colder here in NJ and the PZero’s that came on it are summer only and were noticeably losing grip in cold morning driving conditions. (I kept them, they only have 4000 miles on them!).

Trofeos or something with some actual tread life?
If it’s the Trofeos and you have 4k miles on them, they’re probably done. Even if they have tread left, they’re still probably done. Heat cycling kills tires dead. I’ve worn tires to various points of having lots of usable tread, but traction was shot.

No, just summer-only tires. They are only good for grip down to about 55 lag ambient. Below that they don’t grip for crap. I nearly had the back end step out on me pulling out of Wawa one morning when it was only like 45 F out so I figured I better change them out.
It’s like the old days when you would need snow tires for winter. Except now I’m going from summer only to all season and back in the spring.

Nothing wrong with the summer only, they just aren’t made for cold and def not for snow and ice.

Thanks for this post. Question, will this Rim/Tire clear the brembos?
The kit I was sent does. And the diameter is within 3% of the wheel/tire combination I'm using.

When I placed my order, I selected what I thought would be the correct package. Before it was shipped, one of their team reached out to me via e-mail. I confirmed the car ('22 M1 with HP) the existing rim (19") and tire (285/35). They confirmed what they'd send. A few days later, everything showed up.

At their web site, they have several Mustang options.

I ordered the kit, which is a tire/rim and small scissor jack.

If considering a purchase, you'll make one mod to your car: the felt, attached to the underside of the wheel well trunk cover. With the clearances and all, you'll need to cut a circle big enough to clear the spare, removing that felt padding. The cover itself is not effected. I got mine just right. Sits flush. Looks like from the factory.

The air inflator, I saved that. It's stowed in the house. After two to three years, the car will alarm/alert about the inflator kit, telling you it's time to change the slime canister. You can simply ack the alarm.

Before placing an order, reach out to them, explain the car/rim/tire. If you're happy with their response, place an order.

If doing long-range touring, I'd research a full-sized option.

Edit,

Residing in the wheel well of Skye is the AA spare, secured. The cover on top. I have their small jack, torque wrench, and other bits sitting in the trunk, wrapped in microfiber towels to prevent scratching. I could have put their jack in the well. I simply elected to leave it handy.

For anyone doing anything regarding a spare, make note of the lugs in use. For example, the AA spare uses the factory lugs. The rims I'm using use Gorillas. Not a big deal. Just something to remember when stocking the trunk.

Set your trunk how you like. Maybe do a dry run or practice once you have it all sorted.

Circling back on this. Should've knocked on wood.

My car needed a tow monday morning and I used the Ford Care or whatever it's called to get a tow to the dealer. I just put in the notes that the wheels seemed locked up and that it would need to be a flatbed. They dispatched the truck and a flat bed arrived in about 1.5 hours.

I can learn.
Got to mess about with it a bit as the cover doesn’t sit flush yet.

Same for all my cars.
Can't send a flatbed?
I look elsewhere even if it cost more.
