Gas Guzzler Tax

I just received my window sticker, and it is now showing the gas guzzler tax, however when I placed the order (3/30/2023) that was not listed as being applicable. Does anyone have any intel on whether or not I will be price protected from having to pay that? The build sheet I received from the dealer has no mention of it. GT Premium Convertible w/6MT

At the time you ordered the test results on fuel consumption weren’t available I’m guessing.

It’s a tax so I would say not protected

It it makes you feel any better, I hear the EV tax coming in 2035 is going to be $5K.

Gov't is trying to change behaviour and they do that through taxes. Cigs, Gas prices, ICE prices, etc.

Y'all make be feel better about having to move my order. The $1000 gas guzzler tax was the only change in price. Guess I would've had to pay it anyway without price protection.

Yeah it's only the manuals that are getting taxed.

What bugs me about the tax is the autos have a 3.55 rear end and the manuals have a 3.73 rear end and no changes allowed. The additional gears and the rear end allowed the the car to dodge the tax. The gears in the six speed are so close together that a road car would be be better off with something like a 3.08 which would definitely provide better economy on the road and a little less shifting in town. I would pay extra for that but I am not sure it even exist in the after market. Yes, the smaller engines have lower ratios but I am not sure those rear ends can take the power that the V8 turns out. I guess I can afford the extra fuel but I really like a road car that can avoid refueling so often.
I was probably spoiled by the motor home that had a 90 gallon fuel tank and could go 700 miles between refueling stops. Pit stops were another matter but when you bring your bathroom with you, any off ramp becomes a rest stop.

It might be tied to the Dark Horse. The configurator for that car only allows the 3.55 with the auto.
