Didn’t mean to be. But honestly the same could be said of you.

We asked for examples of light sports cars sharing platforms with SUVs.

Then you plop some random concept.

Come on dude.
Why is this even a topic of conversation on a GTD thread. Aren’t there 20 other threads where people are wishing for a lighter Mustang?

Because, after the disappointment of the weight reveal, we are looking for Ford to lighten things up the next generation.

It’s part of the conversation flow my guy.

That’s how it always goes in life, in-person, forums, telephone, email, social media etc.

Let’s be real here.

Honestly this “conversation” just regurgitates the same thoughts over and over. The GTD and our Mustangs are two totally different cars. There are reasons our cars weigh what they do. And I also doubt anyone on here could tell Multimatic how to build a better GTD.

No kidding. Most conversations retread the same ground as challenges to thoughts and ideas present themselve, tje defense of those ideas come in. Then reevaluations of criteria based on those challenges or defenses, etc. Again, that’s part of what makes a discussion a discussion.

And no the vanilla mustang and the Gtd are VERY similar cars. Literally tje only difference is the bolt on suspension and the body kit. Underneath - including drivetrain is regular mustang.

Thanks for playing.

thats just not true
GTD has: wider front and rear fenders, larger brakes, larger wheels and tires, active front aero components, a front-mid mounted engine, an 8 speed Tremec DCT mounted to the rear axle, a supercharged 5.2, active rear aero components, DSSV active suspension.

there are so many changes to the GTD that you just cant replicate on the Mustang without completely tearing the car down and custom fabing a bunch of components. saying the Mustang GT is like the Mustang GTD is like saying the Toyota Camry is just like the Toyota Stock Car because they both say "Camry" and look similar

Sure. It has some mods.

The wider fenders to you refer to? That’s the body kit I mentioned earlier.

Wheels and tires? That’s what everybody does to mod their vanilla mustang.

It’s basically a vanilla gt500+

Really should have just been this generations gt500!and been out already.

is the GTD heavy: yes
is it because of the mustang chassis at its core: yes
does that make it a "bad" car: no
does that make it "basically a vanilla GT500": no

like it or hate it, clutch your carburetors all you want, youre looking at the next gen Mustang.
you want to see what the mustang is really capable of? here it is.
you want the mustang to have better balance through the corners? here it is
you want to see the next gen 2030 mustang? here it is

sure it wont be as advanced, and will probably run the 5.0, have less complex suspension, but if you dont look at this car and see where Ford is clearly taking inspiration for where they want to take this thing in the future, then youre just blind.

Sorry to hurt your feelings.

But it’s not the “race car” made street legal they sold you on.

It’s just a regular mustang with a body kit and suspension upgrade basically.

So you admit that it’s an s650 at its core, then try to say it’s the next generation car? Lol. The s650 is already an old platform.

Who has carburetors? The heck is that.

I hypothesized numerous times on this forum thst tje Gtd really existed for ford to subsidize the development of the next gen mustang platform and that’s why it cost so much I was wrong. There is no new platform under there. It’s the same old one we know and are tired of. Bolting on a suspension, bolting on a transaxle, and slapping some tires on don’t come close to equaling “new platform.”

The Gtd is a rad car, true. I was a raving mad fanboy when it was announced and went to see it at the LA auto show. Took pics and posted here.

But as the truth trickled out, it just wasn’t all we were told it was.

Turns out it’s heavy.

Turns out it’s just a regular mustang with upgrades.

Turns out it’s nowhere close to the gt3rs is was created to beat.

And yes it’s basically a gt500. But better suspension and a body kit.

The 2020 gt500 was the best mustang ever made at that point so it’s not a knock.

This should have been tje new gt500.

Ford was smoking crack when they priced tje thing. And they were smoking crack when they told us it was a race car that just looks like a mustang. Instead it’s a mustang that just looks like a race car.

Hey it is what it is. Don’t cry about it. It’s still a great car. But it’s not 300+k great. It’s not even zr1 great. Heck it’s not even gt3rs great.

But it’s a cool ride. Worthy of the gt509 badge.

We just wish ford was more honest about:

A. What the car is.
B. The pricing.
C. What it would be capable of.

But they weren’t. Hence the disappointment.

It’s just adding to the disappointment when we see Detroit turning out pure epicness and winning left and right while our car failed to meet its goal (being the gt3rs) and had to go for hyping the Walmart version of that goal (barely sub-7).

Again it’s a cool car, but failed to meet ford and multimatics own hype.

In spite of it being a little pig, I do expect it to improve its time a bit this spring.

Also, I expect zero components of this car to show up in the next gen mustang. But I am certain that the telemetry they’ve received from developing and pushing this car will result in superior geometry, footprint, and weight distribution for the next platform.

The Gtd is a polarizing proposition. On one hand, it’s exciting bevause ford is showing they want to push the s650. In the other hand it sucks because fotd is saying the days of a rip snorting performance bargain are out. If you want great performance, you’re going to pay through the nose and every other orifice to get it.

Does the $300k+ GTD get the same Predator engine as the GT500? Maybe a slight bump in boost or blower size?

Same gen 2 design? no direct injection?

It’s the prrrdator engine.

I think the supercharger would be in the way of DI. So it’s SPI.

Another reason turbos would be great.

I wonder how much or not heat soak is an issue for the Gtd.

"Turns out it’s heavy."

yet has better power to weight than the 911 GT3RS

"Turns out it’s just a regular mustang with upgrades."

upgrades that require tearing the car down to is chassis and making permanent modifications

"Turns out it’s nowhere close to the gt3rs is was created to beat."

nowhere close despite being the fastest American car around the track, getting the sub 7 minute theyve been targeting and within 9 seconds of the GT3RS thats developed on the same track for a few decades. I am interested to see what they can post when they go back this year.
