Horrible Factory Paint 😡 Two step correction and ceramic coating

I purchased my DH out of state sight unseen. When the car got delivered, the condition of the paint was incredibly bad.

Curious how many others have had this same issue

last week I spent a few days doing a two step correction and ceramic coating it with Crystal Serum Light and Exo V5 from Gtechniq.

I took the call in today to address the clutch line recall (it passed) but made sure they didn’t touch the damn paint!

Not so much an issue but the downfall of any black/dark colored vehicle paint.
Certainly not defending the factory for the rough paint work quality but even if the paint is corrected those scratches and swirls will reappear with time.

I owned a 2013 Focus ST for 8 years. Tuxedo Met Black. Very Noticeable orange peel, and as a "no extra charge" feature it was covered by thousands of pin point white specks on the color coat/under the clear coat?!

The 2016 Focus RS I replaced it with didn't have any spots in it's paint, and though it had less orange peel; it was still noticeable.

The Rapid Red on my GT is easily the best paint of the three. There is a little OP visible but not bad compared to the previous two cars.

No garage, sits outside all the time. I don't abuse the finish, but don't obsess over it either (like I did back in the eighties).

What the **** is a swirl mark?!

I hear Gtechniq is the **** in ceramic coatings; good choice! Hope you got it squared away to your satisfaction!

I would bet it wasn't factory poor paint but some clown that isn't trained to do proper wash techniques. It wouldn't take only one wash to mess up paint. I'm very picky on paint and was lucky my dealer uses professional detailers on delivery. Paint was perfect. Even so I never let anyone wash my cars but me. Yours looks super nice. Paint correction is a labor of love especially if is super bad.

Same with mine. My paint was pretty near perfect and required almost no correction before my detail guy applied Crystal Serum Ultra. That said, I instructed the dealer not to wash the car or touch the paint before I picked it up. I picked it up the day after it was delivered to the dealer and it was somewhat dirty, but paint was in great condition. There is some orange peel, but not what I consider excessive.

On the day I took receipt of my car, as I witnessed the "detailers" getting it ready for me, I actually stopped them. It was quite shocking what they were doing, attempting to do, materials they were using. I thanked them for their time and asked them to slowly back away from the car, so no one would get hurt. . .

Before I ordered my car I was skeptical as they said they use a proferssonal detailers that contracts with Barrett Jackson. I wasn't disappointed. As far as orange peel one might be better off having some as long as it is not too excessive. At least you know its not whisper thin that after a few years wear areas show.

I had a 2012 with L1 Performance Blue. It was horrible to keep clean and showed every imperfection. This is why I got white this time looks good pretty much all the time.

Black DH here. Paint was really good, but had them do a 1-step correction before ceramic coat anyway. Looks great. Went IGL Kenzo 5 year.

My Rapid Red has the most orange peel I have ever had on a car, much worse than your DH. I had it paint corrected and Ceramic coated by my detailer the first week I had it. He uses Gyeon products. It is much better now and is a joy to wash with the water just blowing off.

Gyeon makes some great products. We use their coatings on every customer car

Sadly, this sort of situation is not unique to Ford, I've seen cars delivered to customers from Porsche and Bentley in similar condition. At the end of the day, a car is a mass-produced consumer product that is then passed through a chain of humans before it lands in the customers hands. Not ideal when you are dropping your hard-earned money for something that is not perfect. I can only hope that mine is delivered in reasonable shape, which I can then take to the next level without having to make more serious remedial actions on.
