Hey, @ThreePedalPlow and @Interstellar - If you want to tuck that R7 or R8 up closer to the top of the windshield, here's cheap yet great mount for under $10:

NEW - Uniden R8 Permanent Radar Detector Mount (UND-R8-P) | eBay

If this isn't allowed, please remove. It's not my ad - just a happy customer.
BlendMount for me :) positions it perfect in my opinion without touching the windshield. Plus when you mount it up high like that you introduce the possibility of blocking incoming signals. Yours looks nice though good job

I considered the BlendMount. Not only could you be stopped and cited for obstructed view here in Michigan, but it would actually obstruct my view hanging that low. The RD isn't touching the windshield with this mount, and there's no signal obstruction at this height. I've actually read in multiple places, the higher the better.

Although ... I may end up having to switch to a BlendMount, anyways. I'm having the DH ceramic coated and windows tinted, and the mount I have won't work well with tint on the inside of the windshield ... :/

Lots of patience and tiny fingers are required. Try to mount as high as possible on the stalk by forcing it down and out when installing. Also definitely remove the center piece as the instructions mention you might want to. If you don't it hangs very low.
Check my original post for some more details. Good luck and tighten HARD or else it will rattle in a week.

Could someone post a link to the blend mount? I could not find it anywhere in the thread.

I have been out of the Radar detector scene for 20 years.

Why did you guys go with the R8? It looks like the V1 Gen 2 has better app support and perhaps connectivity to Android Auto?

Go with V1G2 and the JBV1 app which pairs to the detector via Bluetooth. You wont be disappointed.

Thanks for that detailed explanation. And Love the OG Valentine One. I’ve been rocking mine for about 10 years now. Plan on getting the 2nd gen soon for my s650 whenever it comes in.

For settings I run strictly Ka band.
X - band is long gone as well as causing tons of falses.
K band is pretty much legacy as well now too.
Laser is RIP if it hits you anyway and all the toll roads causing falses was why I ended up disabling it.
Ka band maximum sensitivity.

No tickets and never been pulled over for speeding. I probably go over the speed limit all the time except school zones.
Use Waze for long road trips and unfamiliar areas.
I have to disagree with you on K Band, at least where I live. I see K fairly often traveling in more rural areas and small towns. Those are the places I am most concerned about speed traps.

Why does the owners manual show the passenger side opening as a USB. The one on my car is in the middle close to the glass. It's powered with the car shutdown and not in the accessory mode. Flimsy also.
Am I missing something.
Thanks
