its due to structural reasons. i dont want the tube to crunch in and suddenly im now responsible for a new engine for someone because their pistons and cylinders heads have melted plastic in them, plus the risk of blocking the cats (if the plastic doesnt vaporize by the temps there). since there is some interest, though, i'll look into maybe this weekend designing something. if i do release something, it will probably be a model for people to print on their own, that way it releases me from liability
Oh I'm sure, I wouldn't want the liability either. Would be interested to see your design though!

I do want to defend Steeda a bit here after bringing a product to market. It costs a lot more than I thought it would.

It is reinforced silicone and which does cost a lot more than rubber. Price isn’t that far off from two silicone intakes. There are two of them and they are specific to the S650.

I was looking into doing something similar but I have not gotten very far with it. You could save some money by not having the specific fittings included and changing to hose and a clamps but most people want the direct fit with the quick fittings (like the one I linked above).

The total cost to make a product like this is why I have not done so.

I would prefer a plastic tube and two silicone connectors but that does increase the number of clamps. I doubt anyone will come out with a quality option for much less. Plus the gains will be minimal.

If the JLT are delayed due to tuning requirements then they may have decent gain but the oem intakes don’t look too restrictive other than the carbon traps.

I have been 3d Printing for years and there is no way you are going to make a part that is even functional or cost effective. Are you just looking at their intake tubing? Steeda also has (2) larger CNC MAF housings.
As I have said the price might be high for the little gains but as far as material and compared to other intakes the price is not bad.

As for the JLT, it looks nice but I wouldn't want the open filter kit. I like the intake tubes better than Steeda though.

you're probably on to something, i have a habit of over-estimating what i can actually do. i was looking at the whole set of parts. 2 air filter to MAF tubes and 2 MAF to throttle body tubes. i will agree that it's not bad materials for the price of the JLT, though. they're pricing it at $450, which is miles more reasonable than K&N and Steeda's $700. i will still be giving designing an intake tube a shot, but i will need to wait until i get a 3D scanner, that way im not spending forever and a half measuring every little thing

Update - got my JLT in. I really like the look. But it throws error codes with the MAF. So with no tune I just have to deal with it. Not super happy. Worried about improper fuel air ratios and damaging my motor while driving hard or at the track. Thinking about returning…

Have you called JLT? Have you swapped back to stock and seen if the codes are still there to make sure you didn’t mess up a MAF sensor during install?

No haven’t called them yet. I remember being careful with the MAFs and didn’t drop them. I think. But idk. Are they very sensitive?

They can be. Maybe need to clean them with some MAF cleaner.

I have the JLT on mine, it works. It also does not seal up to the hood like one would assume, so it pulls hot air at idle.

video on youtube.

Well you did the grill mod with stock intake didn’t you? Anyways interesting it doesn’t seal up against the hood as that’s the intended design, no?

correct, i did open up my grille. The intakes are designed to seal up against the hood but it does pull quite a bit of hot air at idle so I don't think the hood to box fitment is what it's supposed to be.

Thanks !
I am going to upload a video in a few minutes showing the issue. i just took a closer look and see the boxes are nowhere near sealing ...
