If you look at the stock mustangs with cold intake and an open box, you see that they are designed in the proper way. My Bullitt had a much longer (and softer) rubber sealant (almost 10cm in height) which get compressed along the hood. A such small gasket will never sit properly, the play along the edges is too little, there will be always some sort of leak. It could be perfected with a custom molded gasket (even by paying 20-30$ more for it).

Well what's the point in buying something that's supposed to seal properly and it doesn't so you have to go spend more for a custom gasket? The intakes that seal against the hood are crap in my opinion.

Where did you read that? I said: they should have it designed properly even if it would have costed more (with a molded gasket).
Open airboxes are a thing since GT350, GT500, Mach1, Bullitt.. they works great (the cover is redundant) if designed properly.
