Is this different from trademarking something just to keep rights to a certain thing (i.e. Boss trim), or is this another case of "we might do this or we might not"?
Unfortunately way different. “Mach 4” never was a thing. So it’s new and really Ford is the only one who’d use it.

The term “Mach 4” implies an incredible amount of speed. The only American car that could get away with it is the GTD OR ZR1. Naming it “Mach 4” after the number of doors is just idiotic.

The Pill? LOL
ExplorerDude on Blueovalforums. He's provided enough specific details on enough products that have proven to be right enough times to make him trustworthy. He's not the kinda source that says "There's gonna be a next gen f-150" or any of that shit. He'll be describing styling, or giving the name of a product like when everyone was saying Ford's small pickup would be called the courier and he was the only one saying it would be called maverick weeks or months before others found that out.

Or when he was refuting rumors that the s650 was gonna be based on the explorer chassis and instead was telling people it would be a modified and updated s550 chassis back when everyone else was reporting it was gonna be using the explorer chassis.

The dude knows his shit.

(flashbacks of the exhaustive discussion regarding what the Mach 4 should be called)
I agree. I said as much a couple posts ago.

(I feel like I've heard the name ExplorerDude before in the 6G forums, if not here...)

Someone is in a mood lol. Seeing as the mustang sold 44k units last year, double that would be 88k. I find it fairly likely that the coupe and sedan combined can sell 88k units a year.

The Dodge charger wasn't that great of a car, and sold in respectable sales numbers just by itself. Sure, some were cop cars, but the majority were consumer spec models.
Naw I’m just pulling your leg man. I enjoy our convos.

Dodge Charger is a completely different car though and perceived different. Then it was sold next to the Challenger which had a different name/identity alongside it which is what we were saying. You would have to use the new Charger as an example and currently it wouldn’t be accurate with all the drama they got going on. It’s also 80k so comparison would still be off.

When the dealer meeting leaked out it was pretty much confirmed man. So far everything that’s been revealed or teased there has come out in order. Besides the new Bronco thing they’re doing. Explorer came out last year, then we got Vaughn debuting the RTR 4 cylinder, now we only have the Raptor/Baja Stang and the sedan left.

Nah you're good man, I see what you guys are saying, it's hard to make accurate predictions with these things, I could end up being completely wrong we'll see. But the charger seems to have handled the transition from two door to four door relatively well.

Like you said, the new charger might be the best vehicle to gauge reaction with, using the same nameplate on two and four door models, but I believe that model is gonna struggle a lot due to the lackluster reception EVs are having at the moment, we'll see how the 6 cyl models do.

It's not an apples to apples comparison as they're two wildly different kinds of products, but looking at another iconic Ford model with a passionate following, the bronco. Believe it or not, there are a lot of bronco and wrangler fans who thought offering four door versions would ruin the nameplate, and kill those models off. But the four doors have outdoor the two doors quite heavily. Something like 70% of all bronco sales are the four door model.

Yeah it’s definitely a wait and see type thing. Only thing I think could be a negative is pricing. I hate to be “that guy” but if it’s priced too similar to the coupe they should just use ecoboost engines for the sedan to differentiate the two.

I have been seeing a lot of hate being thrown their way on IG and Reddit for the past couple days. I’m curious if Ford will address it on launch like they did with the Mach E.

As much as I'd like to see it start at $30-35K for the EcoBoost and $45K for the V6/V8, I don't that'll happen. Maybe $40K (Eco)/$50-55K (6/8), but at this point I'm just throwing numbers around.

I have a feeling it’ll be very close to the Mustang pricing.

So I know these are just renders, but I think they should provide an appropriate amount of hype for what may be coming. Although I can't imagine the sedan looking exactly one-to-one to the current coupe from the front and back, nice as that would potentially be.

If they changed the taillights it could be an awesome Falcon if Ford is watching. Huh @9secondko? Missed opportunity to go with the F150 Raptor route and use Mad Max marketing. Falcon GT for the V8, ecoboost V6 for a Falcon Raptor, SC V8 for the Falcon Raptor R. Do a “Interceptor” or “Pursuit Special” edition like the Bullitt. Could’ve made an entry level performance ecoboost “Sprint” model.
