Corvette is working on an SUV right now. Guess you can't buy a mustang, Corvette, Lamborghini, Porsche, charger, or Ferrari. So what will you buy? Lol

Btw, I think the Corvette SUV is further along than the four door mustang.
At least in Porsche and Lamborghini, they were brands making new vehicles-not making the 911 or Aventador into sedans or hatchbacks. Corvette and mustang were not and are not brands. The shift to a brand is again part of them getting the sheep to follow suit. I guess I will hold onto what I have or buy used because I will be damned if any new car money of mine goes to supporting any of this. And for a family car, I can support the likes of Kia that are not in this space. I would 100% rather see the Mustang nameplate die. There has been nothing definitive on the Corvette SUV...not like this dealer meeting report on the @#$%ing mustang sedan. But you are probably right unfortunately.

Yeah that’s why earlier when people were saying “Porsche does it” they were wrong. If Porsche actually did it, the sports sedan would’ve been called the “911 Panamera” but it’s just Panamera.

Porsche did things backwards as far as making performance cars first, they needed to make the sedans and SUVs since they were struggling (amongst other things). You would think they would be desperate and throw the 911 name on it because of its heritage and legendary image….. but they didn’t.

So it's just the mustang name that would bother you? Not that they look and perform identically with two added doors?

The same with the off road mustang... It wouldn't bother you if they put an s650 on off road wheels if it weren't called a mustang even though it's clearly a mustang?

Well it’s for 2 reasons but yes the name is not needed. Mustang is a model that was made from the start to be a 2 door sports coupe. Been that way for 60 years. Which @9secondko brought up. That’s the formula that created a segment where Camaro was made, even the Nissan Z and Celica. Putting a Mustang front end and rear on a sedan doesn’t make it a Mustang. Because if that’s the case why isn’t the Panamera a 911 when it has the front and rear end design? (Since Porsche is the standard everyone keeps using wrong)

and unlike the Panamera which had no prior history, Ford has models with legacies known for being good rwd performance sedans. Which is why Falcon is a name everyone has brought up since it was the most recent and has a huge connection to Mustang. That 4 door performance v8 has been the Falcon’s formula from like 79 to 2016. Not like Ford is opposed to using nameplates since we have a new Maverick and Capri.

I have no issue with a Dakar style Mustang because it would still fit the 2 door coupe/design and so on just with off road tires and a little lift. Lmao.

of course the mustang name bothers us. Bothers a great many people, when it’s not attached to an actual amustang.

looking similar and performing similar is one thing and that’s fine - ford used to have the mustang while mercury, it’s sister brand had the capri - and that worked well. There was enough styling difference and the Mustang got the hot rod stuff, Cobra model, etc. so the actual Mustang was given respect even though there was a similar model in a sister brand.

the Mustang is a model, not a make. It’s a 2 door sports coupe - including convertible.

slapping mustang taillights and headlights/grill on a sedan/SUV/dumptruck, etc. doesn’t fit. It’s just a desperate move to use the Mustang name to supposedly garner interest in these other vehicles.

the Robles is that there is a casualty - the actual Mustang, whose name is no longer associated with a clear image, but has bevome diluted into this amorphous amoeba of whatever th
E flavor of the month is at ford.

it’s a downgrade of the Mustang, s failure of marketing chops at ford, and a desperation move that is not sustainable. Sooner or later, a wise CEO will be forced to hit the reset button.

if Ford wants to sell different things, then call them different things, because they ARE different things.

the fake nameplate stuff doesn’t do what they think it would do - see Mach e (the vaunted/hyped SUV category) which sold even less than the supposedly washed up Mustang 2 door coup last month.

I have to disagree. If it looks identical to a mustang and has identical performance but has four doors, it's a four door mustang lol I don't have a problem as long as it's an actual four door mustang with the performance, engines, transmissions, looks.

I can see it now, Ford releases a four door performance car that looks identical and performs identically to the mustang and calls it a falcon, and everyone would complain "it's a four door mustang". 😅

I highly doubt it, I see a lot of people excited for a performance sedan but hate the name, then a couple people bringing up Porsche and how “Porsche did it with the 911” and bring up the Panamera, Taycan, Macan etc. All different names by the way. 😂

Do you know how massive of a mistake it would have been if Ford didn't call their four door f150 an f150?

Actually you would think the Maverick would’ve been a failure without a F Series name, but look at it 😂

Exactly my point, it's not an f series truck. If it's a four door mustang call it a four door mustang. If it's not a four door mustang, don't call it a four door mustang.

Okay then apply the same logic to a Panamera. Why is it a Panamera and not a 911? That’s the argument everyone tries to use. Like you were saying, it looks like a 911 but has extra doors.

if anything the Panamera definitely should’ve failed without the 911 name.

Why insist calling it ‘four’ door if mustang doesn’t mean what we thought it did? If we can change what mustang means why insist other terms continue to maintain ‘their’ meaning?

I don't know anything about Porsche or their vehicles, so don't attribute others' arguments to me. But if its a four door mustang, call it that and don't play pretend. If it's not a four door mustang then don't call it that.
