I've been trying to track my new Explorer on COTUS and had the same issues as everyone else... the links on the first page worked sporadically and then not at all.

I did a web search this morning and found another link on an F-150 site... it worked for me (my Explorer arrived 4/28, although I'm going to let it sit for a few weeks until it's time to turn in the old one).

Greets All,

I just signed up to answer a repeated question about the cotus site, and also to see if someone can answer a question that at the moment is driving my friend crazy.

First to answer about the cotus site and its functionality or lack of. I for one get no information from the normal cotus site, but as for the "qa" site, gives me my info. As for why you are getting the secure site login page is due to the fact that the QA site is handling currently: USA, Canada and Germany. The bounce rate for the QA site currently is at 68%, (Bounce rate refers to how often the site is re-directing requests). The reason why you are seeing the Secure login website is because the site cant keep up with the hits that are occuring to the webpage from the locations I mentioned, the site is getting hit at a rate of approxmately 140,000 hits per hour which it cant handle and the site goes down, or possibly stops responding for a period of time to stop the requests (this can also be a DDOS protection rule). The best times from what I can tell is early in the morning (9am EST to Noon) and then after 10pm.

I have found at times going to the normal cotus site and entering your info and hitting enter will most likely come back that it cant find anything on your car (like me that it never works for) and then right after going to the "qa" site will bring up the correct webpage to enter your info.

If you happen to be wondering how I know this, I am a self-employed Systems and Network security Consultant in New Jersey for small and mid sized businesses.

As for the question:

My friend had ordered a Mustang and was tracked through the QA site and it made it all the way through to the Awaiting shipment, and then it disappeared and re-appeared with no delivery date and a status of "Offsite", no one is able to give him an answer as to why, and now the site went back to showing the car in production when it was at 4 days to delivery.

The reason I know why this would happen are:

1) If you are getting stripes put on, the car is sent out for stripes and not done at the plant.
2) Certain cars at random are taken off the production line for Quality Control checks.
3) Cars are checked and sent out for cleaning before delivery.
4) It didnt pass quality control, this could be due to: Faulty part or flaw, Part of the body isnt aligned properly, Tech or Bot broke something during affixing the part during production and was sent to another location to fix the error and to recheck quality.

Am I wrong or is there another explanation as to why the status would change to "Offsite" and then back to production? The dealer is telling him Offsite status is when its being transported to the carrier for delivery, but it doesnt explain the status change to back to production.

As for me I order mine on Feb 26, got picked on 3/3, vin and build week recieved on 3/18, Build date is 5/23 and delivery est is 6/13, So Ford Rep any chance to speed this up at this point?

Thanks!

At this stage, I don't think anyone here will be able to speed up the process for you as that is determined by the priority number which had been decided when you place the order if i am right. (it is decided by dealer) You may ask Rachel to check the status of your order thru pm though.

Thanks, I kinda figured being this close to the production date only being 17 days away wouldn't change, but hey dont know till you ask. But does anyone have a clue to the question I posed, or a theory?

Here it is again:

I ordered my car this morning. When can I expect to see anything on the tracking sites?

The order gets picked up on thursdays, either it will be picked up the 19th or the 26th, once its picked up within 1-2 weeks you will get a vin (either the 27th or June 3rd), you will have to ask your dealer to look that up, once you have the vin then you can check the site. When you get your vin, you dealer can at that point tell you the est. scheduled production date as well.

And then its a painstaking wait.

Do you mean July 3rd?
July? If it takes till July 3rd to get a vin number then there is something seriously wrong with the order, He should have a vin by May 27th or June 3rd, considering he put the order in on 5/16 which is before a thursday, so he could have the order picked up by ford this thursday, or next thursday.
