So the Mustang outsold others cars it’s not competing with and that are far more expensive? That news was more relevant when the Mustang had some actual competitors but the Camaro is gone and so is the Challenger/Charger. BMW and Mercedes moved their products upmarket so an M4 is now much more expensive and every real sports car never competed with the Mustang in the first place.BS. 40K plus sales with the factory closed for a month. Would have probably been close to 50K if not for that.
Mustang sales are strong and will continue into the future. Bet they get closer to 50K this year, even with the new high prices.
Sales are somewhat low and it doesn’t matter whether we’re talking +/- a few cars a year - wouldn’t make much of a difference anyway. The ‘new’ S650 had almost zero impact on sales figures and that’s abysmal. Now, I don’t think the product itself is the sole reason sales are what they are but I think a better product would help. The car isn’t bad – it just doesn’t offer anything truly compelling that couldn’t have been had prior for less.
Maybe Ford ‘skips’ the S650 refresh and moves on to the S750 or whatever the program will be called. New platform (take one that exists already and produce the Mustang on it as well to save costs), new everything. The upside would be that the car could be released ‘next to’ or shortly after they axe the S650. No retooling needed in FlatRock if the car is produced elsewhere.
