I received the invitation to participate in Mustang Unleashed Experience, as I am sure other purchasers have received. What is your opinion on which of the three options is the best? I am leaning towards the Road Course option.

I'll admit it, I'm a chicken... So which option is best for a person who hasn't raced cars since my street days in Bklyn NY with a 78 TransAm?

That's an eye of the beholder decision. I went with drag strip because the drift brake was included. Plus, I love tearing up the quarter mile. I said in another thread if drifting was a stand alone option I would pick it every time. If road course looks good to you, go for it!

I believe one is responsible for the first $6500 damage for any mishap even with the insurance. If you can afford it go for it. I use to go to the extremes when I raced and at my age now would probably be writing a check.

So I’m signed up to do the road racing event on the 26/27th.

I found some videos online from previous years events and they keep you to like 50 mph in the infield portion and looks like you top out around 120 on the oval portion. So, far from the limits. Even when you do the ride-along with the instructor they are limited to like 70%. So you REALLY REALLY have to F up bad to do $6500 in damage to their car within those constraints.

I’d say if you can get down there, do it. You will learn a lot about how to drive the car faster safer. From the email exchanges I’ve had with the folks there they focus a lot on proper breaking technique, picking lines, and vehicle dynamics/weight transfer and how that affects steering and breaking/acceleration.

I’ve done motorcycle racing, race schools, and track days before and I do a TON of iRacing (and I’ve been banging laps in the new Mustang GtD around Charlotte since signing up for the event back in June), and they said I’ll still likely learn a lot from the experience.

I did the Dark Horse Track Attack. Two of the best days driving ever. If you have the time and budget, just do it. Don't worry about how long it's been, they have good instructors.

Nah... that's a hard pass for me. I wouldn't want to have a conversation with my insurance company about how I wrecked my new car at a racing event. I'd never get insurance again...

They provide the car… it’s not your car. There is an insurance waiver you can buy for like $130 but you still would be responsible for the first 6500 in damage. However you would have to really screw up bad to do that much damage to their car.

I just did the road course program yesterday. It was amazing! One of the coolest things I've ever done. I will be doing more of these types of events in the future for sure.
Look into SCCA and National Auto Sport Association (NASA), you have a great road racing course just south of Joilet @ Autobahn Country Club. Also check out grassrootsmotorsports.com and motorsportsreg.com for road course events happening in your area.

For the Unleashed event you'll be driving their car. For track day events I always opt for Haggerty's track day insurance, it's not that expensive and the piece of mind is worth it. Normal insurance won't cover anything that happens on track.

When you sign up there are dates for manual and dates for automatic. So yes, you have a choice.

Just got back from Vacation, part of which was the Mustang Unleashed program (8/18-8/19). It was awesome! The FPRS cars, instructors, and program were great. We got to experience things in their cars that I would likely not do with mine (unless necessary) - Balloon car braking, Lane change/ABS (in GTs). The autocross was a cool "run it hard" exercise (although in ECOboosts, still fun). Then the Road Course - Hairpin lead/follow sessions on Charlotte MS were super cool (in DHs). We didn't go as fast as I had hoped, but that was OK. Everything is in duplicate so Primary Driver and guest can split everything or Primary does everything 2x. My wife got to drive everything that I did and she loved it as well. Great all around experience. I would recommend that if you can make it, its worth the trip, even if you had to fly in. Thanks for the Experience FMC and FPRS! #fordperformanceracingschool #FoMoCo

ps. Will post a few pics and maybe a video once I get them uploaded to the laptop.
