This guy is sitting here on the driver's side, just infront of the strut tower. As you see, it is terminated by a matching connector but is then dead headed.

Car is Dark Horse M6 with HP.

Anyone know what this might be for? If I know what energizes it, it may useful for something in the future.

Never noticed it until you pointed it out. Mine looks exactly like yours. My car is a GT M6, AE, no power package or magnaride.

Complete guess, maybe something to do with a euro spec mustang and it was cheaper to just make it part of the wire harness setup and terminate rather than having two variants?

Mmmmm! Maybe for right hand drive. I guess I could put a scope on it and see what's what. 6 pin connector too 👀

I found out that my Mustang hero @roket also confirmed this unused connector. He said it has 12V power on it, so Ford pre wired this for some reason.

Maybe for police vehicles or something.

It's the Nanny Plug. The physical plug itself acts as a terminating resistor, a circuit terminator.

Removing the plug :bandit: in the S550 disables nanny features, like traction control and steering assist. People who track or go to the strip will pull the plug while there. Below are some threads explaining why people disconnect it and the functions that are disabled when the plug is removed.

The steering hydraulics still operate (you really can't steer without them), but are essentially neutralized. It might be my imagination, but it appears to modify the transmission programming as well.

When you do pull the plug, and scan the modules, there are other things changed, but my scanner doesn't nomenclature them. So what those changes are, I can't say.

Specific to steering, attached is a photo and a tutorial on Ford's Electronic Power Assist System.

It is easy to see why the electric steering isn't as robust as one would think. The question is, how long does the belt last? At least it is not running in oil!
