^ in that case not looking forward to checking, there has to be a better way. Mirror or hold phone here type of thing?I checked my knuckles today and what a pain in the ass to see the serial numbers. To get a good look at the numbers with the cell phone, I had to take off the caliper. The caliper is held in with the longest caliper bolts I've ever seen, about 4"s long. Putting the caliper back on, I had to use the pad spreader tool to get the pads over the rotor. My serial numbers are good so far. I wonder why each knuckle is serialized?
Fortunately I had Steeda’s jack bar put under my car and will be getting a new jack lift in the delivery so I can jack soon and take the wheels off to be able to check the the numbers! And hopefully I don’t get a notice from the Ford company but I will check just to make sure I didn’t miss the recall as well!^ in that case not looking forward to checking, there has to be a better way. Do all 3 Lines have to match?if the serial number matches, take it to your dealer so that they can replace one or both for free under warranty
all 3 linesDo all 3 Lines have to match?
I just checked my Left Side and Line1 of the first Match but the other 2 Lines don't.
OK, I rechecked and edited my post, I have 1 & 2 Matching but not the 3rd. Going to check the right side now.all 3 lines
I took it to mean the first two lines are the part numbers and the last is the serial.Do all 3 Lines have to match?
I just checked my Left Side and Line1 and Line2 of the first Match but the 3rd Line doesn't.
Finally got my jack yesterday!Fortunately I had Steeda’s jack bar put under my car and will be getting a new jack lift in the delivery so I can jack soon and take the wheels off to be able to check the the numbers! I removed the tires... was able to get (phone) pics without removing brake calipers.I took it to mean the first two lines are the part numbers and the last is the serial.
How much of a pain and did you have to remove the caliper to check?
ah, just saw borescope … hhmm.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the image above is of the driver's (left) side, although the "Note" says it is the passenger side. Even the second line of the serial numbers match up to the left rear knuckle. Am I looking at it incorrectly?
I'm thinking the same thing, but I'm hopeful they will take pictures in place of having to check it out themselves. I'm taking my car to the dealer in about an hour for the recall. I have the pictures of the knuckles printed out and am hopeful they will close out the recall without me having to leave the car, but we will see what they say.I would think that legally, the dealer would have to inspect the arms and verify the #s for themselves. If they closed the recall off your word, and there was an incident later and it was found that the arms should have been replaced, the dealer would be liable.
As expected, when I took it in they said the technician would have to verify the serial numbers personally due to liability concerns even though I provided pictures.I'm curious how it goes. I doubt our service manager would allow it. To anyone who has verified that they do not need them, you are under no obligation to have the recall done. It'll just sit on OASIS is all. Hell I work here and would let it go if I knew I didn't need them!
