Pre-game hype goes to ZR-1, and it is not particularly close.
1000+hp > 800+ hp; 212+ mph > 203 mph; in-house developed > outsourcing (which Corvette was keen to hype at ZR-1 reveal); ~ $180K price < $330K price. Normal allocation model > limited lottery to influencers. Lot of people waving a very premature checkered flag for GTD, but I think Corvette popped the GTD hype balloon. The Zora footage on the Nurburgring testing just as GTD is supposed to be showing their run is keeping it down. The GTD better have a crazy ass time.
100%. FORD has let us down again! Too little, too late, too expensive. They could have come out with a Eco-boost Twin Turbo 5.2 and cleaned house! They developed the TT Coyote in an old S197. They could have and should have produced it. Then, it would have been really special and worth the crazy price maybe.

Too bad the Romeo engine plant is no more. They could have put some Coyote-style heads on the boss 6.2

I think most people get the purpose. But it’s priced at unobtanium levels of price. 95% of the ppl who buy this car are not taking it to the track, but keeping it for resale value. Not only that, but I’d go as far to say even for the 5% of people who will take it to the track, less than 1% of those people are good enough drivers to actually be able to beat the GT3 Porsche. This car is cool, don’t get me wrong. But for the price and what it is, just as a car enthusiast, it doesn’t get me very excited or even impress me as much as the corvette or the Porsche cars. And if anything, multimatic would be the ones to deserve the praise, not ford.
The people who own a GT3 Porsche are very, very similar types of people to those who will end up with a GTD. Similar types of income, similar types of jobs, similar in how they treat their cars.

Yes, most GTDs won't get raced, but most Mustangs in general don't get taken to the track. Or if they do, it's rare, because the cost is very high and most people try to be sensible with money.

GT3s are very collectable, limited production, and their owners tend to want to retain the cars' values. Almost exactly the same situation as a GTD.

I disagree that a GTD owner is necessarily going to be a worse driver than a GT3 owner. The times I've been to a track I've never seen a GT3. Most Porsche owners who drive their cars at the track regularly own something a little less collectable.

If you ask anyone who has enough money to get either the ZR1 or the GTD, you'd probably find most people lean towards the ZR1. People only care about horsepower numbers and price.
The best (and worst) thing about the ZR1 is GM will probably make enough that anyone who really wants one can get one. So, while performance might be in the ballpark of the GTD, resale values will not be.

For that reason, many people who can afford either are going to prefer the GTD. I'm the type who prefers a bargain and doesn't care a lot about resale, but I'm not going to buy a C8 ZR1. I think a Grand Sport C7 would be a much better choice. But I'm also not one of the 1% who has a 1%er job and makes 1%er money. I don't have the attitude of wanting the best of the best.

Dont get me wrong the GTD is going to be an incredible car....but look - at the end of the day Im not paying over 300K for something that has the same gear selector as my wife's Explorer and basically the same motor as the GT500 and Raptor R - I mean seriously- over 300K and they cant come up with something different to change gears??

I mean they dont put the GT3 motor in the Cayenne.....

Gonna be just a little over half the price of a GTD too probably
