Dude, it beat million dollar cars in the wet.
Yeah, this right here!

I’m not sure about all the Monday morning quarterbacking here. It kinda cracks me up when civilians are second guessing an all-star team of engineers like this, but such is the internet.

I‘m personally proud to own a tiny piece of the DNA that went into such an accomplishment.

I do have to say I’m not too sure about calling the GTD a “stock production sports car”. Seems just a bit of a stretch. It ain’t like you‘ll be able to walk in to a dealership and pick your favorite color out of inventory, but whatever. Sadly, I predict the biggest dealer for this car will be Barrett-Jackson, just like with it‘s bigger brothers.

honestly an amazing achievement. The mustang, which 10 years ago was seen as nothing more than a straight line one trick pony with the 200+mph GT500, now is going toe to toe with one of the most iconic track cars in history. Top that off with the GTD managing a 6:57 in the wet on Fords first official outing, this car has a lot of potential left in it. Especially compared to the Porsche team thats been doing this stuff for over 2 decades at the ring. cant wait to see what a dry lap gives us
It's a stretch calling this a Mustang

Literally ever condition that could have worked against them did, and they still set a record. My guess is that know they can go a lot faster, but they wanted to get this time out there and set the record for first sub 7 American car. The driver even said he wasn't pushing the car close to his limits, this was in August, the combination of wet track and high heat was less than ideal on both fronts.

I'm guessing when they return with ideal track conditions and actually push the car to it's limits, it'll be in the low 50s or in the 40s.

Not only will the track be better when they return, but the car as well. Didn't even think about this, but someone else made a solid point. This 6:57 was laid down in August, back when the car was still doing a lot of its testing and development around a track, and the team was making improvements to it. The version of the car that showed up for the October/November attempt was no doubt faster than earlier versions, but couldn't make an attempt due to weather.

I mean If my goal was still achieved and there’s this feeling that the car could go faster from the team, thats just a win all around. This makes me more excited to see what’s next in better conditions

At least the Zr1 has resemblance to the actual production car unlike the GTD. Not much in common other than the name and bodywork
The name, the chassis, the bodywork, the coyote engine, the interior (unfortunately). You could show this in a lineup and people not in the know would probably see this as a wide body modified mustang GT tbh.

Except that you are wrong. The name is the same but other than that almost everything is different. Not much is known about the chassis but I would bet that it has absolutely nothing in common with a regular GT. Besides, it has carbon bodyworks and NO Coyote engine but a modified Predator engine from the GT500… Combine that with a $300k price tag and even the former title “bang for buck champion” is gone… It has almost as much in common with a Mustang as the Mach-E…

i dont understand why some are saying that its not impressive. i think those people, since they obviously know what they are doing and have clearly set 3:00 times on the Nurburgring every Saturday, should band together and make something actually impressive if its so easy to them
