Oil filter access panel mod

I'm new to the under belly panel, but from where are you reaching the oil filter with your hands. Watching your video, it looks like the cut you made is to get the oil out, but your hands are inside a different hole which I can't see. You removed the oil filter from somewhere else it looks like.

Yes, it's easiest to remove the filter from the opening in the wheel well. You will get less oil up your arm. The problem is the oil will saturate the under tray and leak for days if you do not take the under tray off or give the oil a hole to escape. The piss flap worked perfect to guide the oil out.

I never did an oil change before, but somebody said to put a plastic bag on the oil filter and then turn the oil filter loose. The oil will spill in the plastic bag. Instead of on your car. Since you already did the real work, can you explain if this is a good idea or maybe not that practical?

If you had a way to turn the filter without turning the bag maybe it could work. The easier thing may be to make a gutter out of sheet metal or an oil jug and use that from the side where I reached in.

What's the issue if the bag turns with the filter? The bag will still be covering the filter right? Sorry for the stupid question, I have no practical experience.

1. I didn't want to take the panel off regardless of the K member brace.
2. cutting it up that much would weaken it more than I wanted.

Thanks the reason I asked was because I get my oil changes at the dealer. But the access panel is cool and I guess it would be easier for them.

The oil will leak out as soon as the seal on the filter moves away from the housing. The bag needs to reach past where the oil is spilling while remaining open to

the oil will begin to drain once the oil filter seal breaks away from the housing. if you have a bag over the filter to catch the oil you will need to make sure it reaches beyond the stream. if you are spinning the filter to unscrew it that would make it difficult to hold the bag in place. You would probably need two hands to make that strategy work.

Yeah, you definitely need 2 hands, 1 holding the bag and 1 unscrewing the filter.
