Just got something interesting for you guys. The EU S650 was homologated in Europe as a refresh, not as a brand new car. This came out since tuners don't have to pass new and expensive approvals for their tuning parts but can just extend the approvals to the "refresh". For Ford it allowed them to keep certain things that are not possible anymore, like the exhaust sound can stay as it was on the 18 GT, otherwise it would have been much quiter if they had to get a brand new homologation

One key part of a refresh is that the power can't differ too much, so the big rumor is now that Ford pushed the power from US model down to be able to classify the S650 as a refresh of the previous model

That doesn't surprise me...
I wonder especially if the DH engine is exactly the same as the GT, apart from a different map.
Is it reinforced like in the US? 🧐

good question, I don't think they would have changed it just for the EU. I guess we still get the better crankshaft, forged piston connecting rods and strengthened camshafts and a 7,500 RPM redline. But they must have cut down the power somewhere. At least it did not have to go down in tone. Probably the same techniques as for the Gen VI which was also lower in HP than the US version (like 20 to 30 HP less if I recall, the 2015 GT had 421 HP EU when the US had 450).

And personnaly I won't be tracking my DH so if it has 456 HP instead of 500 Hp, who really cares when it come to street legal driving.

@Ace : but thanks for the information that would explain a lot.

Absolutely. I will testdrive the EU DH next week and am really looking forward if it feels and drives differently than the GT, which already impressed me in terms of handling. Just pure horsepower numbers are meaningless nevertheless. EU C8 is rated at 483 hp, but I still outrun the 600hp RS6 on Autobahn.

I will check if I will be allowed to do a quick 100-200 testrun in the EU DH

The 100-200 run is definitely interesting! No chance for a 0-100 also ,right?
Don't forget to send us a video!😁

Just watched a video from another German reviewer. Hypothesis for the power drop would also be the OPF (Otto Particulate Filter) which decreases the power.

The same with S550, however this time S650 lose more HP compared with US versions.

The question is if would be possible "recover" the original HP. Changing the OPF or doing something.

German tuner Hentzschel measured the US Dark Horse and got 459 hp on the dyno, so way less than the expected 500+ hp - He will test the EU DH soon as a comparison. So maybe the power difference isn't actually that much
