Hello,

Last weekend I decided to finally upgrade from my old, 2010 GT Premium to a 24 GT. The car does not have the active exhaust option. I am curious on what others opinions/ideas would be for an "affordable" exhaust route that doesn't involve me spending $2000ish on a Borla or Corsa system.

I am currently thinking about doing the muffler delete, and then throwing on an X-pipe.

Just wondering if anyone has done something similar, and if you would go one route or the other.

In addition, I am 22, so having it obnoxiously loud doesn't bother me.. I actually enjoy it.

A muffler delete and an X-pipe will make you King of the rasp...

Some people like that sound, but for many its just obnoxious noise pollution. If you want a cost-effective exhaust, find a local exhaust shop and get something custom made. That or you can go with a cheaper cat-back from MBRP, for example. IIRC, they have full systems available for under $1k USD.

I got a quad tip axle back from NXT, under $500, loud but great tone. Also have a Steeda H pipe and I think its perfect. One guy at work here has the MBP straight pipe axle back and its loud but sounds like crap.

I bought Roush axle back mufflers for my 24 GT. $800 for a pair, 30 minute install. I absolutely love them. I went with the matte black - I think looks nicer with the bumper facia being black. And they are 4" tips instead of the factory 3.5". YouTube has a few videos that you can listen to them but they are perfect to me. If it wasn't my daily driver (and only car period) I may have done an H pipe but I am 250% thrilled with these

Steeda H-pipe here. Sounds glorious. X pipe is the king of rasp IMHO.

I had Roush axle backs on a '14 GT and loved it, but they only cost $400 then :)
I really wanted quad tip on this car though, and the NXT was it.

Doesn’t sound good. There’s a difference between loud and good.

Another vote for Roush axle-backs. You get 80% of the sound for 40% of the cost (compared to a full catback). Reasonably quiet when cruising but gets loud when you get on the gas.

If you want super cheap and super loud, yeah just cut everything off and weld in some straight pipes.

If you want free and very ghetto, just drill some holes in your mufflers and resonator.

If you have the time to spend, it may be fun to test out a few things. Maybe start with deleting the mufflers and take some sound clips. Just make sure to cut where the axle backs clamp on incase you want to add a muffler later. Then add in an X or H pipe. Use clamps so you can switch them out if you do not like the sound. You can tailor the exhaust to your liking. There are a lot of videos on YouTube but mic quality plays a big part in how good the exhaust sounds on playback.

I love the active exhaust as is so I have no plans to change anything but I could see adding an X or H pipe in the future. X tends to perform better but Steeda's testing showed no real measurable difference on the new cars. They have a great video on their YouTube and website.

I suggest you do the muffler delete first because that alone creates a very good deep tone and decent volume. Then if you want more volume, add an H pipe for a deeper tone or X pipe for a raspier tone but possibly a little louder.

I genuinely think people are brainwashed by the marketing from these exhaust companies, spending thousands of dollars for dumb pipes that they think will make it sound all that special and different from straight pipes but all the differences come at the cost of lower volume and is usually barely audibly discernible.

Everyone will tell you not to do it but I don't think you'll regret it considering a full exhaust system is 5x the price and quieter. The marketing and brainwashing from these companies and their black magic "sound engineering" for $3000 is insane.

I just have a steeda H-pipe on a non active exhaust car and it sounds great but I was thinking of a muffler delete or replacing the stock mufflers with flowmasters as I want the car just a little louder
