I have a late 23 early 24 build date s650 Mustang GT performance. The car is my daily driver and for the most part has actually been quite solid. However the car has always struggled with clutch feel such as inconsistency with the petal and it seeming almost to lose feel from time to time. This has led me to believe changing the clutch spring is a simple fix, I’ve been looking the steeda assist spring, but I don’t want to change it until my other more cumbersome issue is solved.

The second more complicated issue involves a couple of factors, such as sometimes the clutch feels like it starts to engage then disengages before fully engaging. Other times when you shift to second or third recently after the car seemingly warms up it will actually shift fine then when you let out the clutch the car will jerk no matter what way you do it.

The car has about 7,800 miles, and has been well kept and on its 2nd oil change. I’ve ruled out a burnt clutch as the issue is inconsistent and not everytime I shift. For some reason it also seems to be influenced by colder weather. Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

How’s your fluid? Did you pass the clutch line recall?

I'd suggest making an appointment with your service department to have it looked at, definitely not normal. You've got the warranty, use it.

I have the Steeda spring and it did make a difference imo. I also have the Steeda short throw shifter and it's night and day difference shifting. Don't think it relates to your issue though.

Good luck!

I noticed on my 24GT performance that if u rip thru the gears the clutch doesn't engage the same after that during normal driving. It almost feels like slipping until the clutch petal is near the top then grabs and jerks the car. Only smoothe if u don't rip thru the gears after I rip on it it's sloppy

I get that alot as well you don’t even need to be on it if you shift high enough in the rpms it just jerks the car.

Update:
Just got a call from the Dealership, they checked everything out, found no issues with the system. I’m going to look myself before I take it off the lot, but I’m going to see if replacing the clutch spring helps.

Maybe putting in different fluid will help? Anyone git any ideas?

Mine does the same thing. Its inconsistently inconsistent. Sometimes it engages in the same spot others its like nope here go nosh on a syncro you whanker. I honestly think its a crappy clutch to be honest. Bet they changed type or manufacturer from the early production cars to now. As mine is built around the same time as the op. A few guys in the local car clubs have said similar and all are early build run cars.

I’m wondering if it’s the fluid as I seem to have the most problems when temperature changes either getting too hot or too cold. Both have different symptoms too, when it’s cold it sometimes feels like it’s slipping and when it’s hot my pedal just randomly chooses it’s feel.

wondered that too is the fluid able to handle the temp variations. I wish it had its own revisor and was not set up the way it is its kind of dumb.
