I saw a brenspeed video on YouTube where they put a smaller pulley on a stage 1 Whipple. Has anyone else tried this? Would there been any issues with the stage 1 calibration? Someone told me I could go down to a 3.625 on the stage 1. If the 3.625 wouldn't work would a 3.75?

ive heard that trying to get more boost out of stage 1 results in a wrench light. i cant actually remember where i heard that, so maybe its not true, but i know for sure that the stage 1 tune hates more boost. pretty sure they did it so people cant just swap out a pulley on a kit with a warranty and cause problems

That's what I thought I heard as well. The brenspeed video confuses me because he puts it on the dyno and it makes more power and he didn't say anything about having problems. I was thinking it might not freak out if it's just 1 more pound of boost.

i think 12psi is the max on stage 1

Biggest problem is the MPH/RPM limiter. And the smaller throttle body, and octane

so make sure you’re running either good E30 mix or 93 and boostane…

93 alone is barely adequate for a 3.75 pulley iirc.

I only run e30 in my car so I'm not worried about that. The speed limiter does suck though I only get like 23 mph out of 4th gear and it hits the limiter

I Wish it came with a boost gauge. I think it's a little under 11 but I could be wrong
you are able to add that yourself. in FORScan, go into the IPC (not the as built data one) and enable the boost gauge and disable the vacuum gauge, then do the same for the APIM. then, it will show you vacuum from 30 inhg to boost up to 30 psi in the gauge details on the dash and add a vacuum/boost gauge to the auxiliary gauges in the MyMustang menu

As some others have mentioned the Stage 1 kit limits the throttle if it see's more boost than what the calibration was designed for. That as well as the rev and speed limiters on the Stage 1 is lower than what the stage 2 offers.

My recommendation is if you're completely not set on getting the warranty just go with the Stage 2 right from the get go. If you're on here, you're just like most of us and will want more power eventually. It will end up costing you more to upgrade a stage 1 to a stage 2 than it would just to have gotten the stage 2 from the start.

Let us know if you have any other questions and we'll be glad to assist you.

Thanks!

If you're not completely happy with the power it makes and you want to step up to the stage 2 we have an upgrade kit available. Not only will you see about a 50rwhp increase but you'll have a higher rev and speed limiter and can pulley it down as much as you'd like as long as you have the proper fueling upgrades and run the proper octane fuel needed for those higher boost levels.

Personal opinion. When you get to any point which pushes the limit, it is time to hire a professional! Supercharging (turbo or blower) isn't about 'Oh let's add two pounds of boost and see what happens' scenario! All it takes is just one piston pre detonating due to a lean condition, and pow! Obviously, if you have your own dyno and know how to use it, plus the knowledge to interpret what its telling you, you wouldn't be posting here!

I'm not worried about detonation with the fuel I run. I'm just asking if anyone else other than brenspeed has installed a smaller pulley on the stage 1 kit
