So I park my car in my neighbors driveway until my driveway gets redone and he wasn’t paying any attention to where his truck was at this morning and hit my car backing out and ran his truck in the ditch…… I didn’t notice until I got to work as it was dark this morning

Aww man, I hate that for you.

Since he was doing you a favor you can’t really say too much I guess.

He lives next door. It’s going to be turned into his insurance. It’ll be fixed but it still sucks because now there will be an accident on the carfax and it looks terrible right now until it gets fixed

Man, that sucks to have to get it fixed and another reason why I keep my old Wrangler Jeep just to park and shop anywhere there’s too many parking vehicles! My DH only goes to friends house or a safe place where there aren’t any crowded parking spots! And it gets back inside my garage! I might go bananas if someone tried to mess up my DH! Don’t ask me what I might do!! Lol!

By the way, hope you’ll get it restored to perfect shape again!

I traded my 2015 for my 2024. The manager said it had been in an accident according to Carfax. No accidents. Turns out it was when my son let the ladder fall on my car. (We did have a long talk about that.) But the manager said it didn’t matter. If an accident shows up on Carfax it’s the gospel. Really sucked. My car got here so fast that I had no time to sell the other one and had to trade it and of course didn’t get close to the value.

You had a different name on this forum right? I forgot that name.

Yeah I’m pretty upset about it because now if/when I decide to sell/trade, it’ll be worth $3-5K less than it would be without an accident on carfax. TBH I’m already $10K upside down on it as is

@24BlueStang ..... feel very badly for you BUT my friend's car was hit by a neighbour and his own insurance (who he called for advice) said take pictures of the damage so you can show a potential purchaser in the future that it was very light (almost cosmetic) and not a big hit on a corner that would have damaged alignment etc. He did and when he sold it three years later the purchaser was not worried at all and he got a comparable price to others.

I almost wonder if your insurance rates may actually go down due to deprecated value?

No, that's too much paper work to follow all information on the history of all vehicles to decide what you pay. If they had to do it like that, you probably had to pay even more because of all the extra work to have a database that keeps updating with all those individual changes.

Insurance uses what the car was worth new.
