Nine years before my time, but I get goosebumps watching that. And who could forget the 1, 2 finish at the 1977 Bathurst.
Love that iconic vision from the chopper.
In more recent years, Ambrose winning two championships back-to-back was epic, especially after such a long HRT dominance. Ambrose was and still is a hero to me. Then Ingall making a SBR 3-peat the following year.
Brock was never on my radar, but he was a pivotal figure in Australian motoring. While it would have been fitting for it to have been in a Holden, but seeing his protege Lowndes win Bathurst in 2006 was very special. Those 888 Falcon's were a that rare combination of Jet and Truck, as in they were super fast but also very reliable.
I had been an FPR man ever since the team morphed from Glen Seaton Racing into a proper factory team. I had also watched and waited for Mark Winterbottom to have his moment, both at Bathurst (2013) and the Championship (2015). In so many cases, his talent was hampered by sloppy teamwork, he could have won more. So, seeing him run Wincup out to the wall on turn two in 2013 and eventually taking the win was so satisfying.
I'll never forget Skaife's words on that final lap............................."that's the move, that's done it!"
A few years earlier, this lap is intoxicating, not only for it being the pole lap, but that manic howl from those FPR engines at the time. I don't know what they did to make it sound like that, but I miss it desperately. Just listen to it scream and howl down Conrod.
These laps are peak goosebumps for me when it comes to V8 Supercars.
And finally, Scott's pole lap in the FGX Falcon, fastest ever lap at the time. Again, I challenge anyone who doesn't get a little emotional watching this lap. I have a feeling those DJR-Penskie engines were a little "hot" if you know what I mean. That car should have won, but ironically the engine that got them pole position ended up dropping a rocker 20-laps in.
I can't watch the category now, its complete joke. I used to watch every race start to finish, well, I think I watched something like 10-minutes last year, and that was Bathurst.
