I am interested in putting a custom order in for a performance pack GT but I am little worried about the Torsen differential. I plan on exposing the car to cold, wet and some snow conditions with winter tires. Of course during a snow storm I will use another vehicle when needed. I recently learned that if one of the rear wheels completely losses traction the other rear wheel won`t have any power going to it. Seems like this could be a problem in some situations. Should this put me off from ordering the performance pack? Is the base limited slip diff a better option for these types of driving conditions?

Thanks for any feedback!

If you really want to drive it in the snow, not ordering the performance pack will also let you go with 18" wheels/tires

Just shut the off traction control, or put it into slippery mode. On my e39 m5 I should have shut off traction control off. I didn't my abs went biserk. Had to have abs module rebuilt! I'm sure these aren't that sensitive? Mind you that was 23 years ago.

I drive my car with performance pack year round in SE Michigan. Haven't had any issues at all with the Torsen.

I have a torsen in my jeep and they will work better than that in the snow, especially for road conditions. Yes, if you are climbing a 45 degree hill and you have one tire off the ground you will not make it. When that happens, all you need to do is apply the brakes along with the throttle to increase the torque demand on the torsion and it will lock in the other side. Torsens are amazing. They work like magic, traction of a locker with the smoothness of an open. And there are no clutches to wear out.

I drove a 1999 Firebird Formula with a torsen rear end for three winters while living in Cleveland and didn't have any trouble driving in snow.

You probably already know this but the Pirelli P Zero summer tires that come with the PP are more of a problem than the Torsen when the weather gets cold (7C or 45F). They get treacherous even on dry pavement at or below that temperature.
