Posting a picture of my rear quarter passenger panel wheel well area where I found a chip.. it’s in a really awkward spot. I’m assuming it came from ford like this. I touched it up a week and a half/two weeks ago with ford OEM touch up paint and a heat gun. Long story short the car got washed today professionally by the shop who did my ceramic coating and I now see the touch up/clear coat that I put on came off. It’s in a really bad spot and I didn’t really feel that confident about the job I did and now it shows. Is there any tips on how I can get this to dry/set in better so that it holds? Everytime i try to push the lower panel in as I apply it. It wants to go back to its original spot preventing the paint from adhering due to it rubbing off. Thanks

Horrible spot! I would call your ceramic guy and see if they would touch it up for you. You supply the paint and I bet they can make it disappear. That's what I did with a nasty scratch from a golf cart key down my left fender. He filled it, wet sanded it, buffed, and reapplied the ceramic. Only he and I can see it now 😂

You could lightly sand the metal and put some primer down. Then apply the touch up paint. Maybe put some kind of small rubber wedge in there to keep it from going back into the wet paint?

Are they usually good about stuff like this? I thought at worst this would be more body shop oriented. My issue is I can’t get the lower panel to stay put while the upper part where the chip is dries.

I'd call and feel them out. If they do paint correction, they should also do paint touch-up.

If you decide to dyi'ing again, prep with alcohol and get a small art paint brush. The touch-up paint brush is way to big to make it look nice

Yeah I thought about that but the only thing that came to mind was a doorstop. I got a good application last time with a heat gun I have no idea why it came off. I won’t be applying clear coat this time I’m not sure if the edges weren’t flattened enough or what.

Good thing is it’s free to try again. If you need something smaller you could always use a pencil eraser just cut it to the right shape/size

Or just pay the pros.

I read something about that online. Similar to this?

Yeah free is always nice. I just want to get this covered before any sort of rust were to set in. That would make this way more complicated. A pencil eraser is a genius idea this is why I’m glad forums exist.

Good luck!
Had a local body shop look at it that the ceramic shop recommended and does work for and he stated rust won’t be a concern because it isn’t down to the metal. He mentioned something about an e-coat? He said if it bothered me to much he would take care of it for me but rust isn’t something to be concerned about. Thoughts?
