S650 Mustang Tread wear issue ? What is your recommendation? 20240115_113359

Initial alignment issue ... ?

I realized when I washing my DH.

It seems rear tire alignment is not right, I'm using my DH for only commute (no funcy drive such as line lock, launch control, power drift etc... ) for 3000miles, but outside of both rear tires, especially left side, were almost gone... 😬

I stopped by Ford service. They said alignment seemed to be ok, but cannot judge by local service whether this is warranty issue or not. So my local service representative asked Ford head office whether this is warantyiable to replace tires or not. Unfortunately no answer from Ford head office for 4 weeks... 😓

But my tires are about to dead with 4500 miles, almost no tread on outside of edge and very dangerous especially rain season in California.

No matter what Ford says, I'll replace them on next service which is about a few weeks later by my tire protection plan.

So my question is what is your recommendation for all season commute tire for Dark Horse which is 315/30R19 ?

I would very much appreciate your experienced advice of any other Mustang, such as GT, Mach-1, Shelby etc... 🙏

Did they give you a printout for the alignment? Either way those Trofeos are good for around 4k miles. It's a track tire. Get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s..

^ This, +1.

Trust, but verify. You do need new tires, but I'd like to affirm readings before buying a new set. As an example, mine are wearing level across almost all the surface area, while lessened a touch on the inner and outer edges.

I use a Autometer 2160 gauge to check pressures, along with a Milton Tread Depth meter to monitor wear.

This is for certain an alignment issue. Took my DH with 7 miles on it and it was out of alignment. Even after the alignment was done "to spec" I will need to modify stuff to get camber set to prioritize tread life as my DH is really a grocery getter.

For every 1% of camber, you will loose 20% of tread life, that is reality. After my alignment, camber is still over 1% off from zero. That was as close as it can come without modifications.

If the plan is driving like a lunatic or "tracking" the car, camber is way preferred along with buying tires.

Car sits with ten miles on it here today and already starting to tire shop, I have no experience with the DH OEM tires, but likely will not be replacing them with the same.

Please post a few photos of the front also as my curiosity is peaked.

This is mine after ~500km and 1 line lock tire warmup thinger. The tires aren't even anymore.

I'm so unimpressed with these tires. When I replace these, I'll be getting Michelins.

What is your tire pressure cold? Not what the TPMS says, what is the actual pressure as verified by a gauge and what his the offset to the TPMS?

How often are you checking tire pressure?

This definitely looks like alignment to me, but, that worn middle looks like it was run with way too high pressure.

When I first got the car all 4 were over by like 15 (48) psi according to a gauge. I let a bunch of air out then according to TPMS was ~38. I aired them down *again* this morning to 32. The passenger side tires are still reading several PSI over in TPMS. I did 32 psi according to my gauge (husky brand, has been accurate on other vehicles) on all 4, and the tires on the right are reading 2-3psi over after a short amount of driving according to TPMS.

There's also a bit of scrubbing on the sidewall on the passenger front tire, really close to the tread face.

I contacted the dealership, they can't give me a firm answer even w/ pictures so I'll put an order in with costco for michelins just in case.

Are those Trofeos on the DHHP? You're getting exactly what you signed up for. Those are not street tires.

I would go with the Michelin Crossclimate 2. I used them on my Fusion and with a little snow there are OK. I live in Quebec city so for winter winter tires are mandate but for the rest of the time these are good.

Here is a review that I found on the web

  • Performance: The crossclimate2 provides excellent traction on both dry and wet roads, and it’s the only tire in its class to earn a snow traction certification, making it ideal for moderate winter weather conditions.
  • Longevity: Michelin provides an impressive 60,000-mile treadwear warranty on the crossclimate2, ensuring durability and longevity.
  • Price: The michelin crossclimate2 is competitively priced, making it an affordable option for drivers looking for a high-quality all-season tire.
