I installed a Whipple on my car a few months ago, and we had some issues with the tuning that has led to me not being able to use Forscan on my car.

Long story short I was sent an M6 tune and my car is an A10. This basically bricked the car to the point of not being able to turn it off, put it in neutral, etc. Whipple and Ford were quick to work together to resolve this issue, but it has come with complications.

Every version of the Ford calibrations for these cars has a Ford part number, and any tune with a Ford Part number cannot be flashed onto a car UNLESS the currently loaded calibration a valid part number for that VIN. Obviously an M6 calibration on an A10 car failed that verification, so a custom tune had to be made to bypass this validation in order for it to be written to the vehicle.

However, because of this I now have a tune with no OEM Ford Part number, so ForScan completely craps out with the "unable to identify the vehicle" message when I try to connect to my car.

I have tried reaching out to Whipple, they suggested I try the OEM part number for Forscan, which doesn't work.
I have tried reaching out to Forscan, they were pretty rude and basically said the 24 MY Ford wasn't supported yet, which we all know it is.
I have tried pulling the AS BUILT data from the website for my car (as listed on the Forscan FAQ) with no dice.

Does anyone have a clue what part number or calibration ID Forscan is looking for so I can connect to my car?

I am of no help other than ask Ford to give you a PN and be frank as to why.

Ok, I have to ask, how the hell did they send the wrong tune.

Ford doesn't issue part numbers for custom items, even if they did it wouldn't benefit me as Forscan doesn't recognize it. I have tried the OEM part number to no avail.

As for how the wrong tune was sent, people make mistakes. Simple human error.

When the custom tune was installed, was the stock tune stored/saved, either in a handheld tuner or on pc? If so, reinstall the stock tune, and reinstall the correct custom tune.... If the stock tune was not stored/saved, you may be up a creek and will need a tune shop with ties to Ford and.or Whipple to fix.

The original tune can't be reinstalled because the current tune doesn't have a Ford part number so it won't pass the validation.

The only tune I can install is a custom one, and no one else can provide them currently, but custom tunes don't have part numbers so that ship has sailed.

And they are responsible to fix this for you.
They did the same day. The car runs great and absolutely no issues in that regard.

I haven't tried in the past month, I had the latest version at the time though. I wasn't aware of a new version; I'll try it tonight.

If I could program my vehicle with FORScan (or any other software) prior to their screw up, but I can't program it now, then they haven't resolved your issue. If they need to pay for a brand new ECM or other module and dealership time to restore it to factory, THEN flash it with the CORRECT tune for your car, that's what they'd be doing for me.

I don’t have a Whipple tune and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn express last night, but Whipple came out early with a pretty reliable tune for the EcoBoost powered Raptors. Unfortunately, it’s exceedingly difficult to live with long term because flashing back to stock is ... well, challenging.

Warning about Whipple tune

There’s more, but the above links tell enough of the tale. There were users unable to get (Ford) TCM updates among other issues. I’m not talking about people trying to defraud Ford by removing the tune for warranty work, I’m saying that we had users unable to get TSB or service memo procedures done due to the whipple tune and getting the stock ā€œcopyā€ from whipple turned into a clown show for some users.

YMMV but I’m not the least bit surprised at module update impact with a whipple tune.

there are definitely more changes than listed. I can now update the IPC :sunglasses:

Good luck with that, modifying your vehicle with any software is not something that Ford is going to approve and thus will not be liable for.

I can't get the BCM update to make the auto start/stop functional. Not that I want it, but my vehicle is on the list to get it and they can't flash it.
