Looks insane. Can’t wait to learn what it posted.

hopefully Ford gave it enough to deal with the zR1.

What happened to it's exhaust tips, i'm guessing the video isn't in chronological order ...
Either they were trialing blowing the diffuser, or they fell off and the pipes got bent... i notice they stopped going through the carrousel at one point.
Yeah, I noticed the different exhaust configurations as well. I wonder if it was two different setups run at different times.

Looks like two setups. Wonder if one was turbo snd the other was supercharged. That might spice it up a bit.

edit: nah. They both had supercharger whine.

did look like two cars though.

That's a LOT of roll stiffness.

I’m sure I’m wrong but to my casual observer eye…

It didn’t ā€œlookā€ fast… it looked slow and clunky.
But I hope it breaks all the records and my eyes are wrong.

Are they going for a record or just sub 7 minutes?

you’re not wrong. Engine rpm wasn’t going crazy and it didn’t appear to be even pushing as hard as the 2013 gt500.

I’d say the composure of the car made it appear slower than it was going, but the engine wasnt anywhere near being rung out. Decel well in advance of corners etc. could have been a couple of ā€œfeelerā€ laps for the driver(s).

that said, there are a couple of caveats:

1) there were sections where it seems the engine was WOT.

2) the camera work minimizes the sensation of speed quite a bit. Zooming in as the car goes away, zooming out as the car comes forward, moving with the car, etc.

So I’m going with a couple feeler laps they’ll recalibrate and head back for another go.

On these test runs they never go full send in every segment. They would rather push it in some parts of the track in order to prevent spotters to actually measure how fast the car is/can be. Besides, a record run is usually a long procedure that requires everything to go as planned especially track temperature. Unfortunately most fail to actually break any records regardless of how good their product is on paper or on other tracks. Setting a record or beating a Porsche requires much more than just having a product on paper that looks like it would easily break former records.

After all no one wants bad press and if a desired time isn't achievable many will just silently call it quits.

I mean, for a practice shake down lap, it didn't look that slow. Generally how these things go, you take the car out, run a bunch of practice laps to tweak and improve the car, and then you do your flat out run.

The last thing you'd want is having your test drivers driving flat out for the beginning, and crashing the car while you're still collecting data and making tweaks. These people are told to hold back into the time is right.
