Hey gang,

Ordered both of these today from Amazon (had been thinking about both for a while, but nearly getting hit TWICE today by morons pulling out into my lane as though I wasn't there pretty much sealed the deal on the camera! And I have a few road trips coming up this summer that the R8 will be handy for...)

I did pick up one of these "Jsvecip Radar Detector Cable, USB to RJ11" to power the Uniden from the USB port on the mirror. For the camera I ordered the Viofo HK4 Hardwire kit.

That being said, I am a bit concerned about having to run the wires to the rear and inside cameras, as well as to the fuse box for power and get them all hidden - Feel like once you pop off trim panels they NEVER seat back in as well and you start having squeaks and rattles...

Anyone have an suggestions on:

1) how / where to mount all this stuff? I looked at the (forget it's name, mounting system that attaches to the mirror stalk for the radar detector) but it's like $100 for something I could design and 3D print myself. I'd like to be able to pull the Radar detector as I don't need it in the car except for longer drives out of my town.

2) Any suggestions on hiding the wires for the camera and where to place it and the inside and rear cams so they will be out of the way, but able to do their job nicely.

I have my Uniden tapped into the USB on the rear view. I bought a cheap mirror mount on EBay for my 21 GT and it happens to fit on this mirror as well. Hardwired my a229 Pro into the fuse box with wire taps on the passenger side in the foot well. Fuse location #3 for battery and #36 for accessory. There is also a ground stud in there to connect the ground. Setup has work perfect. Wires in the Headliner past a pillar and then I used the rubber door seal towards to back of rhe car. Mounted the cameras and tucked everything neatly into Headliner.

Hmm,, well the A229 and the Uniden showed up today.

I tried running the uniden off the Mirror's usb jack - no go. Doesn't seem to put out enough power. When I plugged it into the USB port down near the charging pad, the R8 fired right up. Hmm... Maybe because I didn't have the car actually running, just Accessory power?

The camera - ugh... Given the angle of the windshield, and how little space there is, I ended up putting it to the right of the mirror, below the vehicle's camera module. It seems to run fine (at least right now as just a front camera) off that mirror's USB port. I'm still waiting on the mSD card I ordered to arrive (should be here later today). I'm not sure about plugging in the other cameras... It's going to be a nightmare to run them. But we'll see. Maybe eventually.

For now I think I'm just going to use the camera off the USb port, and then only pull out the R8 for when I'm plannign to do highway driving and just run that off the 12V cig lighter port. I'm in NJ, just outside of Philly. Unless I get on the turnpike or 295, there's really nowhere to open it up enough that I need to really worry about speeding (I am pretty reasonable in the townships). That also means its not sitting in the windshield inviting a break in...

Just buy a tap kit for the radar detector. It takes like 5 minutes to pop the cover off the mirror and plug the tap in.

Then run the camera off the mirror usb.

Ok got the camera squared away with all 3 set up. Still need to do a bit of cable management as there’s no good place to tuck the wires for the power and the interior camera, but the rear wasn’t anywhere near as hard as I was worried about. I did end up with about 6-7 feet of extra cable that I had to hide in the C-pillar cover… but really it looks pretty good… everything powered off the mirror usb port.

for the Uniden R8 I’m just going to use the 12V power adaptor and suction cup mount when I need it for road trips. No need to permanently mount it.

Shoutout @onaccountof for linking my thread.
I don’t really understand how you have the radar detector powered but glad you got it set up.
For all those extra cables, just pull back the headliner above your Toll tag and stuff the cables in there. I stuffed all of mine in there with the exact same cables it seems. Works just fine without having to pop a panel off

Just noticed your pics. Tbh I would take off the interior camera (no need you aren’t an Uber driver) as that’s probably the best place to mount your radar. You could always move the interior cam to the visor area

Right now I don’t have the radar detector set up at all.

90% of my driving is around town where I don’t really need it (literally nowhere to really open it up).

So I’ll just pop the suction cup mount on the windshield and snap the detector in and power it off the 12v cig lighter port in the center console when I use it (road trips)

I did tidy the cameras wires up a bit more..
