For what it's worth, I have a refundable deposit on a dealer ordered (not ordered by me) DH that should arrive any day now. They quoted MSRP a few weeks ago and it sounded like it was the best they could do at the time. I've reached out to several other dealers with DHs on the lot and have gotten a couple quotes ~2k under MSRP (plus taxes & fees). I intend to see if they can do the same since I have comparisons on hand now.

I haven't bought many cars and never a new one, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Certainly don't let them know it's exactly what you want and you'll pay what they are asking. Get a few comparison quotes to let them know you've studied the market and see if they'll match it. Worst case you waste a bit of time and end up paying MSRP anyway, best case you save a couple grand.

In the end, if it's exactly what you want and it can't be found elsewhere for cheaper, I don't think MSRP is a bad deal. Otherwise you'll have to order a 25, wait 6 months, and end up paying more. It never hurts to try getting a better deal. I'm certainly open to any advice as well!

I think that when I wrote some of this I was half asleep. This car actually has everything I want. The seats, packages, color etc. Just not the price I want to pay but would if there’s no other option I would still pay for it

I mean this respectfully
You should step away from the purchase for a few minutes and think objectively about this purchase. You will only lose money on any car purchase; excepting another worldwide scamdemic ... It’s a depreciating asset and it’s going to drop in value right off the lot.

1) Paying ADM is financially retarded. Yes, I used the r word. The dealer already makes money built into the deal --at invoice--. Anything invoice or over keeps the dealer in the green.
2) Paying MSRP is not ideal. It’s new, will be more expensive to insure, and even with your trade, can you do it without financing?
3) Did I mention how bad financing rates are ? If you finance you’re going to pay a lot more now than in years past.
4) I highlighted all the relevant points in bold. You’re shopping with too much heart, not enough brain. If you know it’s not the deal you want, you need to really, really look hard at your priorities, what the long term ramifications of overpaying may do to you, any impact it may have on others, and is it worth it. You may still do this and come to a yes answer and that’s perfectly fine. I’m pointing out that you should do a little self reflection first, before you begin negotiating.

Damn. I never thought I’d try to dissuade someone from buying a Mustang. :-(

But, I’ve seen a LOT of Raptor R buyers dump them with a healthy dose of buyer’s regret because they wanted the Raptor R, just like you were going to pay for it no matter what, and financially bit off more than they could chew.

Don’t be like that.

And, to be fair, maybe you’ve already had this internal discussion and if so, go forth and get the Mustang and if you do, awesome; one less prius on the roads

Good luck !

I just finished paying off my 2025 Explorer ST that I got at invoice. Also if I get this car the max I will be financing will be less than 30k and is only to keep my credit running but I can pay it off at anytime. The rich don’t get rich by paying full price for anything so why should I. That’s what I come here to ask since the DHP is not a normal Mustang I wanted to see what most paid. I can’t justify paying anything over MSRP. That’s just nuts. I never seen a car as an asset so I’m good there, I’m not one of those people that will buy this car to drive it less than 300 miles every month. I’m going to drive the sh*t out of it. Hey I do like the Prius at least it still have an engine so why not. šŸ˜„

Ok, sounds like you have a handle on this.

Ack!
Clarkson is right about exactly one thing. The prius has no redeeming qualities.

This car actually has everything I want.
That's good.

You know where that one is. I'd continue to study the market, to see what else is available and what the current market will bear. Make an offer based on that.

If this dealer doesn't want to work a sale, from the research you've already done, return to the others and make offers on those.

If those two options don't pan out, place an order for a '25. Granger Ford of Iowa offers deals slightly above invoice, often. You'd have the additional expense of shipping to home or picking up yourself, but the math might work for you.

The good news is, you don't have to buy it now and the DH will be around for at least another Model Year.

Definitely recommend shopping around not just in your area, but across the country. I had to get mines shipped to me on the other side of the state because they were offering it for 68k OTD vs the 80k OTD that i would have had to pay where I am. Depending on what you can find, getting it out of state and dealing with sales tax might still be cheaper than buying it in state. You can also get a quote from out of state and use it to leverage in state options.

thats what I’m doing searching all over through the ford website to see who has one like the one I want and see if they can provide something so I can show the dealer or even make a deal with them

Use auto trader or car gurus. On the ford website, they’ll list msrp, but when u call them or go to the dealer website, they could have a massive markup. On auto trader I just put in my filters, sort by price lowest to highest, and go from there

Better yet, if you have Costco membership, might be worth trying their auto buying program

I got mine back in March for 4k under msrp. With the 24 production ended and the 25 starting soon you should be able to get one for under msrp.

Trying for Under MSRP when they’re getting ready for a 5-7k price HIKE in 2025 is crazy work to me…
There are 2024 models out there you could probably get for under msrp. And like a lot of other ppl have said in this thread, you could already get it for under msrp when it was the only model. Just have to find a dealer/sales person who is willing to bargain
