WTF, carpet is disintegrating on passenger floorboard

First of all, what's up with the quality of this carpet? It looks like it's spray on instead of woven.

I was doing some light cleaning and wiping under the mat and started to see carpet fiber coming up, below is the result. The carpet was dry and no chemicals or anything have spilt on it.

What the heck is causing this? If I rub my hand in other areas it starts to come up as well, so I stopped doing that lol

I checked under the drivers mat and it's fine with rubbing, same with behind each seat.

Well I bought the full coverage rubber liners for the front when I got it and now I'll never remove them. Ever. Everything's just fine!!!!

Probably fine. But then again, I’m not wrapping up dead høøkers in carpet rolls and stuffing them into my Mustang seat.

I’ve got a Lincoln with a generous trunk for that.
