My dad's done it to my mom three times. Thankfully, these were all for relatively inexpensive commuter cars. A Hyundai Santa Fe, and a Kia rio that we bought during our first dealership visit, and our maverick hybrid, which came in the form of someone canceling their order, having only learned about that truck the day of, thankfully it was basically exactly what we were planning on ordering anyways.

Let's just say it's led to some interesting conversations.

I did similar on the 2018 S550 that we have... took our 2006 mustang in for airbag replacement from the old takata recall... looked at the new ones and fell in love with the Royal Crimson... left the dealer with the new S550!
