I work in the Autobody industry, We do warranty work for Honda they are having the same issues. Not fully covered under warranty. It's a 6000.00 plus repair and repaint. We as Ford owners have issues but thankfully nothing like that. Unfortunately the automotive industry is in a tough place. The lack support and qualified technicians isn't going away. Thankfully we figure shit out here to some degree, and I am greatful for the knowledge and help on this forum.

Given my vast previous "rattle can" experience in making small parts more better beautiful ..... 🤪

To my amateur eye; it looks like the manufacturers aren't ensuring the metal surface/s on the affected vehicles are contaminant free; causing eventual paint delamination, or maybe there's contaminants in the primer/paint causing it. Seems like that is less like though; if was the paint itself.......................I'd think larger areas would be affected.

Definitely sucks for the owners though; no matter what it is! Jeez!

It's called cutting corners, in manufacturing. Not enough mils of paint to provide uv protection. Long story but they ft up to make money anything less than 2.5 mils isn't going to cut it. Had the same problem in the 90s and early 2000s. But they covered it.

PLENTY of Fords have had the paint peel off them over the years. I remember certain color Taurus's that almost always had it. Can't remember if it was some environmental thing that changed and they didn't re-formulate the paint right.

I remember all the older Camaros that had the paint fall off of them, too. Just the ones made in California, not Canada

Correct but it was covered under warranty, its not like that anymore. They don't want to honor anything anymore.

People complain that the paint is thin or crap on there car. Guess what all the manufacturers barter for the same paint. It's the process. I haven't seen Ford cars have paint issues in the last 10 years. Other than cross contaminated aluminum panels. They may have a few issues here and there, sometimes cars get resprayed before you buy your vehicle. You just don't see it.

Well, they're Hyundai's. Those poor kids in Alabama can only work so hard!

The issue is the paint they are forced to use. Due to environmental concerns, the paint formula is completely different today than it was 15 years ago. I have this same issue on my blue Tacoma on the plastic parts. I've had the plastic repainted many times with the same problem. The new paint does not adhere well to plastic.

We had the drivers side A pillar repainted on my wife's 2017 Escape. Paint just peeled off. The guy at the body shop said it wasn't prepped properly at the factory. It's been almost a year and it's still holding up.

CATASTROPIC FAILURE????

Talk about posturing. Are people getting injured or losing their life? Granted, this is a problem but lets put it into perspective.

I had a 93 Lightning I bought new. Paint started pealing off the top side after 5 years living Sacramento.

Catastrophic is a reach I agree. Trying to explain this problem to customers and themselves having to shell out thousands to get it repaired. When the manufacturer should cover this, they used too. The Hondas are doing this as well and mostly on three stage colors which is even more money. Just pointing out the direction the automotive is heading. Just like you have a problem with a new vehicle and they can't replicate the problem. Quality has gone down hill and vehicles have gotten more expensive. Good Techs are few and far between. We as a repair shop try to help, but we take a beating with the body shop labor rate is terrible. It took us 2 years to find a competent body tech. The normal consumer isn't expecting their paint to fall off, but I will say we don't get many Gm and Ford vehicles doing this anymore. I chose to do this for a living, it just sucks that it has got to this point.

Yes I have painted many of those in the 90's but atleast it was covered under warranty. Not so much anymore. Luckily Ford or Gm isn't having those issues like that anymore. They cheaped out materials just like the Hyundai and Hondas are now. Now bring in your mustang for other issues, you get the run around. I was Just stating that atleast our paint isn't falling off. New cars are more expensive than ever, and it's like they make money then pass all the problems on the consumer. It shouldn't be that way.

The plastic parts are poly propylene on any texture parts on the Tacomas which if not prepped properly will peel off.
