Mach-E: 26,826
Mustang: 30,653

I'm more bothered that it ignores the actual state of Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Unless people want the random 4+ week downtimes to continue, it needs to build more cars. If market research says a pony badge will sell sedans, print as many My Little Mustang emblems as the factory can print.
thanks for making my point.
Mustang is a niche category.
SUV is mass market.
Yet the Mach e undersells, not even keeping pace with a niche car.

last month mach e sold less too. So it’s not getting better.

Just kill the name already. Slapping mustang on everything with wheels; CUV, e-bike, now sedans and probably a wagon at some point. Lame. A mustang shouldn't be a family car or for going to Lowes. @#$%. Doesn't make it any better that Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari did it too...they were equally lame in catering to posers. I won't buy another mustang...guess it is time to shift to Corvette until they do something equally stupid.
Yeah, the Mustang is becoming more of a brand and less of just a model.

If they make the four door mustang and it looks like a mustang with a V8 and performs like a mustang, just with four doors, that's totally fine with me.

I wouldn't like it if it were a normal sedan with a mustang logo.

That's why I say if it's a mustang with four doors, call it a four door mustang. If it's not, don't call it that. 👍
This is something I completely agree with. Do not design something like the last gen Taurus or Fusion and call it a Mustang. It should have a choice of engines, one of which is a higher power V8. It should have a sporty suspension. Ideally, it would be designed so that a lot of the existing parts catalogs for suspension, engine upgrades, etc., for mustangs can be utilized. Ideally, just one or two modifications for exhaust as well. This allows for one of the biggest things mustangs are known for...aftermarket customizations.

If you want to make a little wider, ride a little higher, I can sorta see that, but it must retain the mustang layout...front engine and RWD. If you do AWD, make sure that the bias is to the REAR wheels.

Becoming a sub brand, per what Radiant posted from Jim Farley/Ford that he took out of context. So like SVT, Denali, Alpine, M, Hyundai N, Raptor, etc.

little b not the big B 😂

As for the sedan, do we know anything else for sure about it besides that it has four doors? How big it is? Engine options? Transmissions? Drivetrain(s)?

It just doesn’t need the name, you can already assume it’ll be heavier and longer so outside of looking like a 4 door Mustang it most likely won’t perform like one. I’m not saying it’ll perform bad, just won’t feel like one, Mach E for example but in a different way.

I posted a video a couple pages back of Alex’s video (from Lund) talking about it, how its obvious what it’ll be and how performance wise it won’t be what those extra positive people think. But we’ll see.

Tbh: i think gto before i think charger
Yeah it was a landslide of terrible comparisons and taking things out of context to not make a point. Lol.

I always thought that G8 was about to be renamed GTO then GM axed Pontiac. They were messing around with that Holden Commodore for awhile.

actually it is you who are trying to rewrite history.

The fact is the mustang has been a two door sports coupe since inception.

trying to pretend it’s done nebulous idea that can be morphed into anything at all is fantasyland.

when anyone in the world since ever thinks of Ford Mustang, past, present, or future, the image is of a two door sports coupe - a smallish car with hot rod powertrain.

not a truck, suv, station wagon, sedan, motorcycle, snowmobile, etc.
Let's look at another brand. One Ford has said the Mustang is competing against...BMW.

Originally, the BMW 3 series was a coupe then it became both a sedan and a coupe. This lasted many years until the early 2000s when they split off the BMW 4 series with the 3 being the sedan and the 4 being the coupe. Then about 10 years later, the 4 series, introduced the Gran Coupe to the lineup...which also has 4 doors.

So now you have the BMW 3, which used to be a 2 door, then with multiple door options, then it became a 4 door and split off the two door to form it's own unique model (the 4). Now the 4 series ALSO has 4 doors.

The 6 series used to be a couple, then it also added an option to be a 4 door. The 8 series was initially a coupe, now it also has the option of 4 doors.

So, can the Mustang also produce a "Gran Coupe" which is a 4 door, 4 seat vehicle? I am sure it can. I am also sure that if they do it right, it will still feel like a Mustang to those that drive it.

Let's face it, right now, the mustang is bought by singles/couples with no kids or very young kids. Then it's bought by a few nostalgic empty nesters that never moved on to BMW/Cadillac/Lexus as a specialty car.

Right now, the Mustang is at risk of just being outright cancelled. The sales numbers are in the toilet. The best numbers in the past 4 years (which includes Covid years) is still worse than the worst one in the previous 20 years. Ford needs to do something, or we risk losing the Mustang. Extending and modifying the platform slightly to put in 4 doors and a better roofline for the rear seats opens it up to a ton more people. The Charger outsold the Challenger 2-1. It also outsold the Mustang a lot of years.

A companion car is a GOOD thing. Saving the Mustang is a GOOD thing.

Yeah name it something else.
Is the corsair a renamed explorer? I wonder why that family competition doesn’t encourage the reverse, being the luxury brand recognition and what not. Mercury is ripe for (re)introducing new models, complete with the ‘spirit’ of a known but a name all it’s own.

edit: meant escape not explorer. - aiming for the known luxury tie in doesn’t always relate to ‘sales’ which is what is being relied upon to justify the ‘name’ association.

Stop concentrating on the NAME. We should all be pulling together to get the car produced and who give a bleep about the freaking name. Well, besides some of the people here.

If they call it a Mustang, so be it. If they call it a Falcon, so be it. If they call it a Thunderbird, so be it. However, I don't think they will call it a Falcon or a T-bird, because they want the brand recognition that Mustang would bring.

The big concern I have is that some genius will slap a FWD engine I4 on it and call it good.
Mustang needs the companion car. Let's encourage Ford to give us one.

I’m focused on it because there’s a formula to the name that made it create a bunch of clones and stay around for 60 years. Otherwise the Probe should’ve been a Stang.

I want a performance sedan, a successful one was the Falcon since the 4 door rwd thing is what made that thing special.

But Marketing and Jim likes the idea of calling it a Mustang for a little easier path. Wanting to build this Mustang sub brand of cars that have a horse, mean eyes, and tri bar taillights.

Mach E’s high roofline is a super fastback
