brushing aside whatever they claim the MSRP, anyone who thinks the real price tag for this car starts with a 1 is insane
Highly doubt it will start with a 3

If it starts with less than 7 digits it is a bargain. But alas, only the super wealthy get to have it. And whatever. I got my GT and am more than happy being the worker ant.

Still damn fast

The c8 is a truly outanding platform. Heck, even the base c8 trounced the gt500, for less money.

The zr1 is going to take lambo and Ferrari and Porsche to the cleaners.

I’ve never been a GM or vette fan in my life, but I always call it objectively.

while dodge has turned power into flowers, and ford has consumed way too much soy in their boardroom meetings lately, GM is over there chowing down on red meat and investing heavily into building great products peoole actually want… well, ok. Just one. But still…

the mustang Gtd is fords opportunity to transcend and it seems like we’re getting the short end again - a gt500 with a body kit and better handling. And it will 100% cost more than the zr1.

people forget the zr1 isn’t even the magnum opus this gen. The Zora (or Tadge) or whoever they name it after this time is coming. It’s likely to be an electrified zr1 with even better handling.

kudos to the other side. They deserve it.
Meanwhile, hoping Ford is planning actual great things for the mustang (not SUVs, 4 doors, or other DEI inspired nonsense) like 1,000+ hp, getting the pricing where it should be and providing the biggest bang for the buck. Heck, hopefully providing the biggest bang period to go with it. it’s not like they have at saved enough on an old platform for…forever to do so.

This is hilarious. GTD is way more than a GT500 with a body kit. More like a street legal version of the GT3 race car with a blower. I’d gladly buy a ready to go race car for $300k if my wallet allowed, I don’t understand why GTD gets so much grief. Is it because of the Mustang nameplate? Because it surely is no ordinary Mustang.

A 1,000hp car from factory sounds cool but the price will cut off a huge chunk of the market. How many people really need 1,000hp anyway? The sales won’t justify the development costs. It would end up being another halo car like GTD (ZR1 will be that way as well, the price tag will very much be prohibitive to 99% of the market).

V8 sedan with a running pony in the grille? Sign me up. I’d love for Ford to bring back a sedan and all the better if it’s 500hp, RWD (or heck even AWD) and wouldn’t bother me one bit if it has the Mustang name. They’d have a vastly larger buyer pool for that than they would a 1,000hp car. Volume = $$. $$ talks, šŸ’© walks.

C8 is an incredible car no doubt, though I much prefer the C7. But Mustang and Corvette don’t compete and never have really. Two different cars, so I don’t really think Ford cares what Corvette does and Corvette probably feels the same way. Maybe that changes with Camaro, Charger and Challenger all gone now but I doubt it.

My $0.02 to the extent anyone cares.

Lately I feel like Ford or Farley is trying to make the Mustang a 911-killer, at least with the GTD. Am I mistaken in that regard? (Man, imagine if Mustangs could be customized like Porsches or Aston Martins...or like the 1960s Mustangs...goodbye šŸ’ø!)

this is delirious. Of course the Gtd has a great suspension from multi magic. But the interior, some of the body snd the drivetrain is straight factory mustang. You can option the engine with blower at some dealers with warranty and the transmission is from the gt500.

pretending a 300+++k hyper mustang isn’t competing with the corvette is laughable.
The mustang ecoboost, GT, boss, gt350 and gt500 are not direct corvette competitors as they are a different type of car. But the massively expensive Gtd is a race car first, street car second. With no rear seats and is specially prepped by multimatic. It’s meant to be a direct competitor with Porsche. So yes, this ONE Mustang is 100% a competitor of the zr1.

anyone following my posts knows that I’ve been a Gtd fanboy since it was just a rumor. I’ve posted the photos I took of it at the la auto show and still hold high hopes for the track time. But the drivetrain is inexcusable. They go ā€œall outā€ yet just use a regular off the shelf setup for the engine. They just didn’t bring enough. And the vette brought the kitchen sink in addition to everything else.

at this point, if ford didn’t go for broke with otherworldly lighteeighting, we need to seriously temper our expectations.

also, ford needs to nab that ā€˜ring time, publish it and deliver cars to customers before they lose the opportunity to be the first ISA production vehicle to lap the ā€˜Ring in sub-7 minutes. Chevy is purposely trying to steal the GTDs thunder with the ZR1. And up to now, they’re succeeding.

looks like we’re in for a wait on the Ring time though. It’s wet season over there and only going to get worse for a few months.

A couple thoughts as to why GTD and ZR1 aren’t really competing.
1) GTD was announced well before ZR1. Yeah, we all kinda thought a ZR1 was coming but it wasn’t announced at that point. Ford had this planned for some time and highly likely without a ZR1 in mind
2)Listen to Farley and Multimatic. They continue calling out the Europeans (and Porsche in particular). That’s their competition, at least in their eyes.
3)You can go to any Chevy dealer and order a ZR1 (setting aside allocations for a minute). You cannot do so with a GTD and as far as I know they’ve given out all the allocations now. Now it’s just a waiting game for the GTD folks.
4)To me, GTD is the Mustang equivalent to the Ford GT. Race car made for the street. ZR1 will very much be track capable, especially with the big aero package, but it’s still a street car base designed to race. Some nuances there but I think important ones.
5)Sticker price on the GTD is going to be a good amount higher than ZR1. Now, ADM’s on the ZR1 will close that gap significantly I believe, unless GM really clamps down on that like they supposedly did with Z06.

I do think Ford wants to be the first US manufacturer to go sub-7 at the Ring, so from that standpoint yes, they are competing with ZR1. But only to do it first. There’s a good chance ZR1 puts up a better lap time but Ford wants to do it first. But from a sales perspective, no I truly don’t believe they are competing. If those that got GTD allocations start dropping them for ZR1’s in significant numbers, then it becomes a different story.

Again, just my $0.02. Maybe Ford will actually chime in here and tell us if they view Corvette and specifically ZR1 as a competitor.
