As predicted, Jag stock is doing the bud light thing. LOL

Hopefully they wake up quick.

the jag boss is pretending it’s due to intolerance rather than jaguar forgetting how to brand a once glorious vehicle company.

Sadly, it seems jaguar is committed to becoming a joke.
It might appear that way but there are other, far more important, factors for the recent drop in Tata motors stock pricing.

There will always be the apologists and misdirectors. The branding definitely plays a massive part. Most of the planet wants absolutely nothing to do with that kind of thing. The “backlash” is all over social media. Like everywhere.

sure, Tata was tanking previously. That’s why they went with the cheap new direction. But where the stock drop’s 3 month trend was then accomplished on top of it in a single day after the reveal, that’s quite telling. If they thought a desperation move catering to … whoever they thought would want this … was going to fix it, they are crying buckets now. Definitely like shooting a dying horse. If it wasn’t dead yet, it is now.

Ive a feeling Jaguar is about to pull another Bud Light in their upcoming about-face and go on a non-apologetic apology tour.

everything about this reeks of disingenuousness. From the letter mark logo that looks like every other logo (the font looks like the mass market Qualy” font from Creativematket.com. The ad copy talks about copying nothing and not being boring, yet it copies everything and is indeed boring. The whole thing looks like it was produced in a day from concept to execution. I’m convinced it was put together by the CEOs kids who fashioned themselves as artists and producers because they’re on TikTok. Meanwhile creative pros everywhere are in disbelief this was approved.

the only thing I can think of is that perhaps Jaguar wanted to get people to notice it again by doing this before moving forward with the real campaign. However, that doesn’t seem to have worked for Bud Light either. Balenciaga is the worse with their disgusting 2023 campaign which featured stuff I won’t get into here, even after their apology tour, the stock is at the bottom of a hill and looks to be in quicksand.

maybe people don’t have short memories after all

It’s a lesson in automotive marketing failure. Ford, GM, and Stellantis should avoid like the plague.

Branding isn’t just a Tik tok video and a logo. It’s the image of the company. Most of that image is captured in what you actually provide. Is your product bad? So will your brand be. No logo, campaign, etc. is going to fix that. And that’s the other big issue with this. No product feature. What’s the point then? There isn’t one.

now if Jaguar came out with this same ad, cheap $2 logo, and rolled out the hottest new sports car you ever saw… faster than a zr1, better looks than a lambo, reliability tested to the hills and back, etc. people would likely have barely noticed the awful campaign because the car itself is so good.

Apple, Porsche, and to a lesser degree, MB and BMW keep the same branding and let their products do that talking. Because they make good products (most of the time).

again, no amount of “artistry” is going to fix a brand problem where the problem lies in your product.

yet here is Jag. They’re in trouble. The cars aren’t that great or exciting. Maybe they’ve gotten “boring.”

instead of toiling away in secret to fix what’s wrong, instead of doing market research, reaching out to their customers, current and former, instead of inviting critique from this who’ve walked away and getting to the bones of what makes Jag JAG, they slapped together a lazy, tropish thing that’s worthy of a 30 social media post before it’s scrolled past again.

you don’t rescue a car brand without rescuing its cars.

heck. If they really were serious, it would have been far better to just give slight peeks of the coolest car you’ve ever seen for weeks without letting you know what it is. NO BRANDING YET. Get everyone in on it. The media, influencers, etc. have THEM post. Heck, do 30 second tv spots, but with Zeno Branding. Let people guess. Follow that with lifestyle videos. Show the wheels pulling up to the coolest events, maybe catch a glimpse of a headlight oncoming or taillight as the vehicle arrive, followed by some well dressed shoes (and the pant leg of the man - or toned lower leg of the woman) exiting the door, teasing the line “you’ve arrived.” But still no branding. It’s bold. It leaves you wondering. And dang, from what you can see, you really want that thing. But no one has told you what it is. You find yourself NEEDING to know. This is followed by various life themes. Realistic, but somehow better than normal. It runs the gamut of emotion. You’ve lost something special, important, or maybe even just a sports game. And yet, driving in theproverbial rain, you find joy, surrounded by pure automotive perfection, catering to you in that moment, from the luxurious seating, to the soothing audio system, to the feeling of safety granted by the vehicle’s effortlessly capable suspension. “For you.” Another features life’s biggest joys. Realistic matters. A baby is born. Two lives untied in marriage. College degree has been achieved. Your residency has begun, etc. this is followed by spirited driving, a time to really appreciate the thrill factors of the car. “You’ve done it.” Finally, the reveal teaser, tells you where and when you’ll find all the details on this thing you didn’t know you needed. The time comes and you’re treated to a directors cut of the moments you’ve seen before, followed by the vehicle crashing through and giving generous views of the actual, full product, followed by a man exit onto the track, where it showcases what a performer it is, before arriving to the office, home, etc., grounding back to reality. You need this in your life. The video is narrated to great music while providing voiceover and onscreen specs, finally revealing the mark snd finally… the new, yet recognizeable logo.

“Welcome to Jaguar.” Finally. The brand reveal connects to this mysterioyus thing you already wanted.

Followed by the website for a rundown on what you’ve just witnessed and a note that the vehicle is in showrooms now (coupled with a previous dealer-wide effort to maneuver their showrooms prior to the event with the stealth sheet removed at the same time as the video ends.

as you visit the website, which goes live moments before the video ends, you are greeted with a whole new branding to go along with the vehicle. Boom. It’s the new Jaguar and you’re here for it.

that’s just off the top of my head, and while not the best thing in the world, it works and would have done infinitely better than what we got. It would have simply required care and work ethic.

but no. We got a circus clown commercial and no cars. No feels. No nothing. You just want it to go back to where it was before. Nonexistent.

so yeah. Tata wasn’t exactly healthy. But now it’s toxic. And for Jaguar, that just sucks. Always like Jag before. What a shame. Deserved far better.

Wow, quite the dissertation. But at the end of the day it's going to boil down to the vehicles they produce. If, like you said, they produce a world class car then no one is going to remember what has just happened. Besides, quite frankly, the customer base they are going after most likely hasn't even seen ads.

Um… feeling it today. Lol

but that’s what I said. It’s about the vehicles.

and yet they made it about some statement that’s going to hurt it no matter what. And it already has.
Sad sad day.

Even a successful, traditional relaunch of Jaguar wouldn't save the brand. Tata motors (and Jaguar) depend on their dwindling Chinese market sales. Two years from now when they actually start making the EV Jag, who is the buyer?

Well we haven’t actually seen the launch of the new Jaguar so there’s no way to tell if your comment has any validity.

Two years from now when they actually start making the EV Jag, who is the buyer?
Someone who is very affluent and loves high performance cars. And most likely couldn’t care less about Bud Lite.

That narrows the market enough that Doug DeMuro is going to have to take another trip to Saudi Arabia to find a prince who buys an EV Jaguar for him to review.

it would - if they cared to build a great vehicle.

Collateral Branding is kind of the care corporate minimum. It won’t save a bad product. But it can hurt a good one. Sadly Jag is 0 for 2 right now.

The article highlights a concept car. How much actually makes it to production remains a mystery.

Edit,

With the photo leak yesterday, some additional updates and the actual concept.

When I look at the concept, I immediately think, "Rolls Royce Phantom."

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czen5y97yjzo

https://www.theguardian.com/busines...ernment-euro-stock-markets-business-live-news

"Managing director Rawdon Glover told Sky News:

“We’ve certainly gathered an awful lot of attention over the last few weeks, but now I think its really important to talk about the vehicle.”

As Glover points out, few car launches get quite as much attention, adding that the industry is at a crucial point:

We need to make sure that Jaguar is relevant, is desirable, is future proof for the next 90 years of its history.

“At the moment, the industry is going through huge disruption: technology changes, as we all figure out actually what an electrified world means for our brand.

“At Jaguar, we’ve looked at that and we think we have to make a really bold step forward. But actually, the step we’re going to take is completely in keeping in ethos with the brand.”

Glover was also pressed about the backlash against that advert, and insisted:

“We absolutely don’t want to alienate any of our loyal fans.

“Quite the opposite - we want to take as many of our current fans with us on that journey... We need to also appeal to a new audience. That’s what we need to do.”

Wow. All of that for a flaming turd.

no wonder they didn’t want to feature the car in the Tik tok commercial. Looks like a 1970s sci fi brick from the front and a metal corn dog from the side.

truly sad. I think Jaguar is done.

I probably shouldn't add to the fray, but I am!

We've just seen Carlos Tavares resign from Stellantis, essentially for poor sales results especially for their Chrysler division (and some of their other brands as well). Certainly part of the issue is the grossly-mistaken jump (more like a leap of faith?) to EVs like other EU car brands have done. It appears that Tata has made the leap too, even though they're not part of the EU's excessive push to embrace EVs, be damned the consumer's feelings about same.

The number of words typed, hyped, and shoved down our throats about how EVs are the savior of mankind, needn't be repeated here as we're all aware of the issues there in. There are a few gems of wisdom, however, which can be garnered from all of the garbage: If the estimates are correct, about $100 Trillion has been spent world-wide on EVs and other supposedly green research. If that amount had been spent on alternate energy sources (not battery, not solar, not wind), we wouldn't be having this discussion!

We currently have a Stellantis Thread, here:

https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/stellantis-ceo-abruptly-resigns.164346/

The web site search (upper right) is often pretty good at searching for an existing thread. Google is better still, just reference, "mustang7g", with the keywaords.

I've read several articles on his leaving, none of which mention EVs. All cite cost cutting, stale product line, poor sales, high product prices, lack of vision.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/12/01/stellantis-ceo-carlos-tavares-resigns.html

If you'd like to continue to contribute of EVs, there are several threads to choose from, including this one.

No, as I said, there has been more written about EVs, than any other subject which comes to mind. My comments on EVs is (was) a lampoon on the subject and nothing more.
