Has anyone run across a message stating ‘Keep Hands on Steering Wheel’? I see this warning constantly when I drive around especially in certain locations around town. I took it to the dealer and they can’t figure it out and I even mentioned this to Ford Customer Service. The message goes for about 5 seconds then goes away.

Any thoughts on this issue? I think it has something to do with lost signal between cellular towers because it is always in the same area of town and there are known dead coverage areas.
I’ve had mine come on a couple times when I only have one hand on the steering wheel for a short period of time other than that, it never comes on.

Found this thread, mine is constantly warning me (with the annoying blump sound) about the hands on the wheel, while they are firmly on the wheel and even making little movements, on the straight roads and highways it's a pain. I don't want to get rid of the lane keeping feature, it was nice in my previous mustang (honestly it saved me a couple of times because of distraction), but this thing is forcing me to turn it off (assuming the warning will goes away). Can't it be disabled via Forscan (the warning I mean)?

I tried to 'be modern' and tried it a few times and I don't know how people can trust this thing. It's like playing a game of chicken with the car. Lane keep assist is trying to kill me! I have to bail it out regularly so I don't cross into incoming traffic or go on the shoulder. I think it requires perfectly smooth pavement and freshly painted lines...something like that. It's permanently off now!
I don't think you're supposed to rely on lane assist when driving... I think it's a safety feature in case you mess up and start going out of your lane lol

The thing is, it doesn't matter:

Let go of the steering wheel completely (which is fun to do from time to time and watch it steer on its own - you've all done it) - and it gives you the warning. As it should!

Hold on to the steering wheel with both hands gripped tightly at 10 and 2 and let it assist you - and it give you the damn warning. Which it shouldn't!

My post was a response to the user I replied to.

But my mustang will give me the no hands on steering wheel warning if I'm going perfectly straight and it doesn't detect any input from the steering wheel (like if you're going perfectly straight and it doesn't need input). Only gotten it a couple times.

All new fords do this and use the same technology.

Mine does it ALL the time. Straights. Curves. With and without my hands on the wheel. So much that I turn it off.

Hm, I don't think that's normal, at least for me or the people I know that have the s650. I don't know what would cause that either.

Yeah it's not normal.. but as I mentioned above, mine does the same.. the moment you keep the steering steady (straight road, linear bends.. etc.), it will annoy you.. i believe the thing has been tuned oddly, it doesn't "reset" properly, doesn't recognize you're slightly moving the steering angle and it buggers you.

The problem is not only to keep your hands, it is necessary to move the wheel a little, during highway travels where you drive straight this is annoying...

Yep, about every 15 seconds.

I remember that my previous S550 had a pressure sensor in the wheel so it was needed to make some pressure, only one hand or finger was enough, but the new S650 requires to move the wheel

It’s not just this, you have to provide input the care is NOT doing. On long straights, unless there’s a road obstacle or something, the car tends to eerily predict my lane position pretty well. So, I just drive just a touch more slowly and resist the inputs ever so slightly to counter this. It’s somewhat effective, but honestly I don’t get much practice as I’m not highway droning much.

Also, on 2 lane roads with poor to average markings, don’t rely on it ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Ironically this behavior is "dangerous", yesterday I had to do small "S" on the highway every now and then to silent the warning, despite the road was straight.. like a drunk driver. So in the end I did like everyone else, and disabled a function that I was using conveniently in the S550, until Ford come up with a solution (or will reduce the sensitivity of the "system").

There is one issue about the 10-2 hold no one talks about. If you have your hands on the steering wheel's 10-2 position, and the airbag explodes, you're going to break your wrists arms or both, or at least wished you did!
