There is a very simple reason why the Mustang is selling less and less. It is a coupe and people don't want coupes any more

In the old days if you wanted high performance you needed a sports car, now everyday cars are as fast or faster, easier to drive, easy to get in and out of, more practical and spacious and more economical.

You really need to want a coupe to buy a Mustang, and most people don't.
It's not that its a sports car, it's that it's "cool"

Or it was cool.

Looked cool. Made you cool. Sure it had terrible back seats, sucked in the snow, blah blah.

Majority of them were the V6 models in the 'cool' days.

They aren't cool anymore. It was a fashion accessory. People would rather been seen in a Wrangler, Bronco, Land Rover, BMW of some sort, 4Runner, Telluride....

Ford seems to be following the same pricing structure as GM with the Corvette. Sure, you can buy one for $70k, but it’s definitely a base car. Add the Z51 performance package, 3LT interior, upgraded wheels and front end lift and you’re in the mid $90k range. My 23 had this spec with a MSRP of $89k in the summer of 2022.
A base 1LT C8 is WAY nicer than a base 300a pkg Mustang.

Here's another vehicle that fell out of style....Full-size SUV. Suburban/Tahoe. Expedition sales also went in the toilet

True, hey with our generation not having as many kids and being into more sporty cars or trucks, theres hopes for sports cars. We grew up with some of the best car based movies.

Ahh but it ISN'T cool any more as you say. People find SUV's cool now not coupes.

The coupe is largely dead now. Even the big coupe makers like Mercedes have combined the C class coupe and E class coupe into a single model the CLE because sales are low.

Yes but planning future cars for old people is not a long term plan!

I don’t disagree that the base 1LT C8 has more to offer over the base Mustang. But a $70k car should at least have freaking heated seats. If you want those you have to go with a 2LT for an additional $7k in MSRP. Our 24 GT Premium had an MSRP of mid $50k with useful features.

I will have to disagree here.
Coupes or even coupe like sedans like BlackWings are still considered cool by all generations.

I have never heard someone say the C7/C8, Camaro, GT/Shelbys, Hellcat/Scats, etc are NOT cool, lol.

I also never heard anyone say "that RAV4, CRV, Escape, Camry, Civic etc is so cool". Tesla had the hype back in 2020-2022 but that has worn off as well.

Theres plenty of youtube, reddit, FB, Instagram, Twitter posts about how people were expecting more from the S650. Lots of

"more money for the same exact car?"
"sedan/EV/generic interior is horrible"
"they made the exterior worse somehow"
"how many recalls after 1 year"
"vague steering feel, Camaro is much better"
"C8 money for a GT not a Shelby??"
"too expensive"
"heavy"
"40k for a 4 cylinder!?"

List goes on.

Well I have gone from S550 to S650 and am very happy - the car is significantly better in many ways.

I would not agree with any of the points in your post.

Coupes of all types would be selling well if what you say is correct - they aren't - there is a reason for that.

BMW is doing fine selling coupes:

The M2 had an excellent 2024, with demand rising by 64%, while the more practical M3 Touring was up by 57%

Corvette sales are up, too. Neck and neck with the Mustang.

I know as Camaro owners got older they would 'graduate' to Corvettes, maybe Mustang guys are now.

You convinced me, get rid of the super high priced Mustangs and Ford needs to make a Cobra so we can graduate too. Lol

The Corvette in the US has been flat since 2021. The mustang has been just about flat since 2021. Dipped a little. Economy affects Mustang buyers more than Corvette buyers.

BMW doesn't actually release sales figures for the m2. If it were number 1, they definitely would, so they use percentages instead. The m2 sells less than the mustang.

So there is no coupe that sells more than the Mustang.

If another coupe sells as many units as last year's mustang, it would be considered a huge success.

Edit.. the screenshot below are Corvette sales in the US. The bottom being 2021.

So we can count global sales for the Mustang but not the Corvette?

But M2 and M3 sales are up, not down like they are for the Mustang

So for someone to say all 'coupe sales are hurting', isn't true.

I am only counting US Mustang sales. These are US Mustang sales since 2021.
