Slight, intermittent, synchro grind shifting from 2nd to 3rd; at city speeds.

Anyone else have this?

It only does it sometimes and I can't really find a correlation on the cause? This is all done at city driving and not banging gears at warp speed on a race track somewhere. Sometimes it does it, other times it does not. I've only ever noticed it when shifting from 2nd to third.

Try double clutching it perhaps and see if that helps.
Temp relative at all? I.e. when it’s cold?

I’ll take it out tomorrow and see. I don’t think it was temperature specific though because I drove the car for a while and it was fully up to temperature.

My other 5.0 Mustangs would do that if I shifted too slowly.......quicker gear changes instead of casual, slower changes helped but the GREATEST improvement was from new fluids!!

BG Syncro Shift II helped a bunch but Red Line DCTF was MUCH BETTER!!

I put the Red Line in my 2022 Vert even though it was doing well and it even smoothed it out especially 2-3 as well as 5th and 6th not being as stiff feeling!!

That's really all I can add.......Good Luck!!

PS: I see that you have a Tremec 3160 so maybe the above won't help but it's sure worth a try??

Ok, took her out for a 45 minute drive this morning.

I logged each and every shift from 2nd to 3rd and the RPM.
  • Over 42 shifts (from 2nd to 3rd) it did it only one time at 3200(ish) RPM.
    • Car was already at operating tempature (been driving for like 10 mins)
  • Shifts ranged from 3000 rpm to like 6000 rpm (smooth, not a race car hammer drop)

This morning the air has cooled off so that may have had my overall temps down slightly. Yesterday afternoon the sun had been out and it was pretty humid. Can't definitively say there is a correlation.

I'm looking at oil options because I can't easily get Motorcraft oil here without paying through the nose. 2 quarts is like $19.00 CAD. But then you have $30.00 in shipping? F no. Canadian Tire doesn't care it. Home Depot doesn't carry it.

I've read some people experienced low levels from the factory? They didn't put in all the transmission fluid required. Since this wasn't part of the dealer PDI then I'll probably get that checked out when Steeda.CA does the underbody work (jacking rails, h pipe, stop the hop and lowering springs) in the coming weeks.

Motorcraft DCT fluid eh? I see that Redline is an addative and doesn't require a direct flush? The Dark Horse manual says you can put DCTF so maybe ask Steeda if they know which adative would be best for the Tremec?

REDLINE has a handy little thing on their site. This is what they recommended.

If you change the fluid, don't go with chart above for fluid quantity. It doesn't take in account the fluid that is in the cooler. Your going to need about 3.5 qts. If you go with the Redline D6 they sell it by the gallon. Got mine from Amazon. I can't emphasize enough what a vast improvement in shifting.

I'm actually writting the Steeda.CA guys now to see if they do this type of work. If they have the car up on the hoist doing my H PIPE and STOP THE HOP then they can probably do this pretty easily for me.
